ZAMBOANGA CITY, June 25, 2026 โ United by a shared commitment to inclusivity, respect, and diversity, JCI Zamboanga proudly joined the Marcha de Orgullo 2026, bringing the advocacy of the JCI Philippines โWalk With Prideโ National Program to the streets of Zamboanga City.
A vibrant sea of rainbow colors filled the city on Thursday afternoon as members of the LGBTQIA+ community, government agencies, civil society organizations, educational institutions, private groups, youth organizations, and allies marched together in celebration of Pride Month.
The Pride March was spearheaded by the City Government of Zamboanga through its Gender and Development Focal Services, in collaboration with MUJER LGBTQ+ Organization Inc. and various partner agencies and community organizations.
JCI Zamboangaโs participation formed part of Walk With Pride, a national initiative of JCI Philippines that encourages Local Organizations across the country to stand in solidarity with the LGBTQIA+ community and promote equality, dignity, representation, and safe spaces for all.
Throughout the march, JCI Zamboanga members walked alongside advocates and allies while carrying messages of acceptance and equal rights. The organization also distributed temporary Pride tattoos as visible expressions of solidarity and celebration of Zamboanga Cityโs vibrant and thriving LGBTQIA+ community.
More than a colorful public celebration, the Marcha de Orgullo served as an important platform for raising awareness about the continuing challenges experienced by individuals because of their sexual orientation, gender identity, and gender expression. It amplified the call for communities and institutions to become more inclusive, gender-responsive, and free from discrimination and prejudice.
Through its participation, JCI Zamboanga reaffirmed its belief that leadership must create spaces where every person feels seen, heard, respected, and empowered. The organization recognized that meaningful social progress can only be achieved when diversity is embraced and every individual is given the opportunity to participate fully in community life.
The Pride March also demonstrated the importance of multisectoral collaboration. The collective presence of public institutions, security agencies, schools, civil society groups, businesses, youth organizations, and community advocates reflected a growing commitment to advance equality and protect the dignity and welfare of LGBTQIA+ individuals.
Celebrated every June, Pride Month commemorates the 1969 Stonewall uprising in New York Cityโs Greenwich Village, a historic event that helped ignite the modern movement for LGBTQIA+ rights. Today, Pride continues to represent both a celebration of identity and a sustained call for equality, representation, justice, and meaningful institutional change.
For JCI Zamboanga, walking with Pride was not merely participation in a parade. It was a declaration that responsible leadership requires active allyship and the courage to stand against exclusion, discrimination, and injustice.
The Marcha de Orgullo 2026 concluded with messages of unity, empowerment, and hope, reaffirming the shared commitment of stakeholders, advocates, and allies to build a safer and more inclusive Zamboanga City.
Through the JCI Philippines Walk With Pride National Program, JCI Zamboanga will continue to promote a community where differences are respected, diversity is recognized as a source of strength, and every individual is free to live authentically and proudly.
