The National Commission on Indigenous Peoples- Zamboanga City Office (NCIP-ZCO) successfully conducted an Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) activity on the Revised National Guidelines on Indigenous Peoples Mandatory Representation (IPMR) to the Local Legislative Councils and Policy-Making Bodies at Barangay Cawit, Zamboanga City.
The activity aimed to strengthen awareness and understanding of the roles, functions, and importance of IP Mandatory Representatives in promoting and protecting the rights and welfare of Indigenous Cultural Communities/Indigenous Peoples (ICCs/IPs) in local governance.
NCIP-ZCO extends its gratitude to the barangay officials, IP leaders, and community participants for their active participation and support in making the activity meaningful and successful.

The NCIP Zamboanga City conducted a Pre-Field Based Investigation (Pre-FBI) conference relative to the proposed implementation of the Tumaga River–Pasonanca Small Reservoir Irrigation Project (SRIP) of the National Irrigation Administration (NIA). The activity aimed to discuss the necessary processes and guidelines in compliance with the FPIC process, ensuring the protection of Indigenous Peoples’ rights and ancestral domains throughout the project implementation.

The NCIP Zamboanga City FBI Team successfully conducted a Field-Based Investigation (FBI) in relation to the Diesel Power Plant Project of the National Power Corporation (NPC) located in Manalipa Island and Brgy. Busay, Sacol Island, Zamboanga City. The activity forms part of the process for securing the Certification of Non-Overlap/Certificate of Precondition (CNO/CP) in accordance with the FPIC Guidelines under Administrative Order No. 3, Series of 2012, ensuring the protection and recognition of Indigenous Peoples’ rights and ancestral domains.

In support of strengthening cultural awareness and respect for Indigenous Peoples communities, the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP) Zamboanga City, represented by Engr. Quilie Rubie T. Perez and Mr. Mohammad Abden B. Jamjiron, served as lecturers during the Cultural Sensitivity Lecture at the 54th Engineer Brigade, Philippine Army.
The activity highlighted the importance of understanding Indigenous culture, traditions, and ancestral domain concerns in promoting inclusive, respectful, and people-centered public service.

The National Commission on Indigenous Peoples – Zamboanga City, together with Regional Director Atty. Adolf Ryan S. Lantion, proudly participated in the Stakeholders’ Agri-Investment Forum spearheaded by the Mindanao Inclusive Agriculture Development Project, alongside partner agencies and other key stakeholders.
During the activity, RD Lantion delivered a meaningful message of support and appreciation to MIADP for its unwavering commitment to empowering Indigenous Peoples (IPs) and strengthening their communities through inclusive, sustainable, and community-centered development initiatives. The gathering also highlighted the importance of collaboration among stakeholders in advancing opportunities and support for IP communities across the region.

Strengthening partnerships and empowering Indigenous communities through sustainable livelihood initiatives.The Field Validation Activity for Subproject Component 3 of the Mindanao Inclusive Agriculture Development Project (MIADP) was successfully conducted in collaboration with the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples (NCIP) Zamboanga City, the Provincial Local Government Unit of Sibuco, and the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR).
As part of the activity, stakeholders conducted an on-site validation of the proposed mud crab production area located in Brgy. Panganuran, Sibuco, Zamboanga Del Norte under the Indigenous Peoples Organization (IPO) that is being considered for startup livelihood funding assistance. The initiative aims to support sustainable aquaculture development, strengthen local livelihoods, and provide inclusive economic opportunities for Indigenous communities.
Together, we continue to build stronger communities through collaboration, empowerment, and sustainable development. 🌿🦀

Through the presence of Mr. Richard Pamaran, the NCIP ZCO joined the significant milestone for the Indigenous Peoples community of Arena Blanco during the Oath Taking Ceremony of Hon. Abdulmuin Pito, the 1st Yakan IPMR of Arena Blanco, officially administered by Hon. Alih Abdulhussin, Barangay Captain of Arena Blanco.
This moment symbolizes recognition, representation, and strengthened participation of Indigenous Cultural Communities/Indigenous Peoples in local governance. As an Ancestral Domain claimant of the Bajao ICCs/IPs, Arena Blanco continues to uphold inclusivity and empowerment for all IP communities.

The NCIP Zamboanga City actively participated in the successful launching of the SULU Project (Solar Uplift for Learning and Utilization) at Campo Uno Indigenous Peoples Elementary School, Barangay Labuan. This meaningful initiative, led by Ateneo de Zamboanga University – Center for Community Extension Services, in partnership with the Cartwheel Foundation, aims to provide sustainable solar energy solutions that will enhance learning opportunities for Indigenous learners.
Through this project, classrooms are empowered with reliable energy, creating a more inclusive, innovative, and conducive environment for education. The presence of NCIP Zamboanga City underscores its continuing commitment to support programs that uplift Indigenous Cultural Communities/Indigenous Peoples (ICCs/IPs), ensuring that development initiatives remain culturally sensitive and community-centered.
