Delta variant case detected in ZC
The City Health Office today confirmed the first case of the more transmissible Delta variant in Zamboanga City.
This is based on the samples sent by the Department of Health Region IX last July at UP Philippine Genome Center.
City Health Officer Dr. Dulce Miravite said the index case, along with 14 other crew members of an inter-island vessel arrived in the city on July 2 and were immediately swabbed as they exhibited signs and symptoms of COVID-19.
The RT-PCR test results came out July 4, of which 12 turned out positive. Due to clustering of cases, samples of their specimen were sent for genomic testing and the result came back today, August 5 with 1 identified with the delta variant.
Miravite said the index case has now recovered. He was immediately isolated in a facility, given treatment and completed quarantine.
The City Health Officer reminds the public to reinforce adherence to minimum health standards and avoid crowded and closed places. She likewise urged eligible population to register for Covid vaccination.
Miravite said the CHO will continue to intensify testing and contact tracing especially in clustering cases of COVID-19.
