The Commission on Higher Education Regional Office IX (CHEDRO IX) commends the successful conduct of the AZMI Distinguished Lecture 2026: โ€œZamboanga Under the Spanish Crownโ€ hosted by the Ateneo Zamboanga-Mindanao Institute at the Ateneo de Zamboanga University Lantaka Campus.

The lecture highlighted the significance of local history in understanding broader global developments, emphasizing Zamboangaโ€™s historical role as a center of trade, cultural exchange, and international connections. Such academic engagements strengthen historical awareness while fostering global perspectives grounded in local realities.

CHEDRO IX recognizes the valuable contributions of the University Presidentโ€™s Office, University Archives, University Communications Office, School of Liberal Arts, the AZMI Team, and the distinguished speakers, including Eberhard Crailsheim and Cristina Caรฑones, for enriching scholarly discourse and promoting a deeper appreciation of Mindanaoan and Philippine history.

Through initiatives such as this, higher education institutions continue to advance internationalization, research, and cultural understandingโ€”bringing global perspectives closer to our communities while strengthening our regional identity.

Congratulations to all organizers, partners, speakers, and participants for making this meaningful academic dialogue a success.
