Press Release: PRO 9 Confiscates ₱2.8 Million Worth of Smuggled Ci******es

On July 24, 2025, at approximately 7:00 AM, personnel from the Zamboanga City Police Office - City Tactical Operations Center (ZCPO-CTOC) reported suspicious activity along the shoreline of Barangay Maasin, Zamboanga City, to Zamboanga City Police Station (ZCPS) 8.

Acting swiftly on the tip, ZCPS 8 operatives responded to the location and discovered multiple abandoned boxes suspected to contain contraband. Upon inspection, the responding team recovered fifty (50) master cases of assorted smuggled ci******es, with an estimated market value of ₱2,856,000.00.

Despite immediate efforts to identify and apprehend those responsible for the illicit shipment, the investigation has, as of this writing, yielded no suspects. The confiscated items were secured and transported to ZCPS 8 for proper documentation and safekeeping.

Police Regional Office 9 reaffirms its unwavering commitment to combating smuggling and other illegal activities that undermine public safety and economic stability. Press Release: PRO 9 Apprehends 158 Wanted Persons in Sustained Law Enforcement Operations

In a series of coordinated law enforcement operations conducted from July 1 to 24, 2025, the Police Regional Office (PRO) 9, under the leadership of Police Brigadier General Eleazar P Matta, arrested a total of 158 wanted individuals, including 51 Most Wanted Persons (MWPs) and 107 Other Wanted Persons (OWPs), across various areas in Zamboanga Peninsula.

These arrests reflect continued commitment of the Philippine National Police (PNP) to upholding the law and maintaining public safety. The operations were carried out in collaboration with local police units, national support agencies, and through information gathered from the community.

“These successful operations are in line with the national policing agenda outlined by our Chief, PNP Police General Nicolas D. Torre III, who emphasized the relentless drive to pursue all wanted individuals. He stated that the PNP is all out in its operations against wanted persons and will continue to intensify efforts in this regard. It’s only a matter of time before we get them. We’ll reexamine the baseline that we have, what we know about these people. We’ll focus on these. We are truly committed to ensuring that those hiding from the law will be brought to justice,” said PBGen Eleazar P Matta, Regional Director, PRO 9.

The series of operations, launched across Zamboanga del Norte, Zamboanga del Sur, Zamboanga Sibugay, and Zamboanga City, reinforces proactive strategy of this PRO to maintain peace and order, consistent with the broader vision of the PNP to a safer and more secure nation.

The Police Regional Office 9 continues to urge the public to remain vigilant and to report suspicious activities or information that may lead to the arrest of remaining fugitives. Together, with community support and inter-agency cooperation, PRO 9 is determined to make every province under its jurisdiction a zone of peace, security, and justice.

PRESS STATEMENT: Viral Post on Alleged Incident Involving Tricycle Driver and Student Passenger

ZAMBOANGA CITY – The Zamboanga City Police Station 5 (Divisoria) is currently investigating an alleged incident involving a Piaggio (tricycle) driver who reportedly transported a student passenger to the Emerald Hotel located in Barangay Lunzuran.

The victim personally reported the incident to Police Station 5 and has filed a formal complaint. Upon receiving the report, PS5 immediately coordinated with Police Station 6 (Tetuan) to conduct follow-up operations. This included the systematic review of CCTV footage along the route where the tricycle is believed to have passed, with the goal of tracing its movements and identifying the suspect.

The plate number of the tricycle has been identified ,however ,the driver remains unidentified as of this time. An ongoing follow up operation is being conducted for possible intercept of the said motorcycle while investigation is being conducted to identify the suspect.

Sa panahon ng matinding pag-ulan, posibleng may kontaminasyon ang inuming tubig mula sa mga nasirang water at sewage pipes na nalubog sa baha.

Mahalagang tiyaking safe ang iniinom na tubig sa bahay man o sa evacuation center upang makaiwas sa sakit tulad ng cholera, diarrhea, at leptospirosis.

Ayon sa DOH Health Emergency Alert Reporting System, umabot sa 28,114 ang bilang ng mga evacuees sa 370 evacuation centers sa mga rehiyon ng‭ NCR,‬‭ I,‬‭ II,‬‭ III,‬‭ CALABARZON,‬‭ MIMAROPA,‬‭ V,‬‭ VI,‬‭ VII,‬‭ VIII,‬ IX,‬‭ X,‬‭ XI,‬‭ XII,‬‭ Caraga‬‭ at‬‭ CAR dahil sa Bagyong Crising at Southwest Monsoon. Kaya nakahanda na ang mga chlorine tablets bilang isa sa mga emergency commodities ng DOH para may malinis na inuming tubig ang mga lumikas.

Maaari ring pakuluan ang tubig sa loob ng 2 minuto bago inumin bukod sa paggamit ng chlorine tablets.
