LAST WEEK, JULY 29-AUGUST 1, 2024: BFAR CONDUCTED FISHING BOAT AND GEAR INVENTORY ORIENTATION AS PART OF THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THE SARDINE SUSTAINABILITY PROJECT IN FMA-4 COMPONENT 2.0

The orientation highlighted the significance of the implementation of this component and its impact towards sustainable fisheries through constant monitoring of registered fishing vessels for both municipal and commercial fishing.

Included in the orientation is the use of BGI forms for field surveys and interviews, encoding of data, hiring of personnel, transparency and sharing of data. Issues on the lack of vessel inventory in both commercial and municipal fishing was addressed and alternative solutions were proposed. Measuring materials and Survey forms were provided to the LGU members for dissemination and official used during the conduction of the component

The success of this event was made possible through the cooperation of LGU’s from Zamboanga City, Zamboanga Sibugay, and Zamboanga Del Norte. This event signifies a step forward towards the goal of sustainable fisheries, furthering the cause of preventing illegal and unregulated fishing operations within the waters of Zamboanga Peninsula.
