⚪️WHITE RIBBON SUNDAYS: We Demand, We Pray. We Act.

In the wake of successive calamities, be they typhoons or corruption, we are called to collective repentance and renewal with humble and contrite hearts.

The Social Development Unit joins the nation in heeding this solemn call. A call that is more than a tradition but a commitment to justice and healing.

✊ This is our moral plea for Justice. Our desire for transparency, accountability, and good governance.

🙏 This is our humble prayer for Healing. That our nation may be "washed and clean and renewed in God's mercy," and spared from further threats and calamities.

Let our act be visible. 𝗪𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝘄𝗵𝗶𝘁𝗲 and display 𝗪𝗵𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝗥𝗶𝗯𝗯𝗼𝗻𝘀 every Sunday in October and November.

Let our white garments symbolize the purity we seek for our land. May this season lead us toward transformative hope, healing, and the restoration of our common life in truth and justice.

SNAPSHOTS | TINDIG @53 Unites AdZU Community for Truth, Justice, and Accountability

Students, faculty, staff, and partners of Ateneo de Zamboanga University came together as one community for TINDIG @ 53: A Communal Prayer for Truth, Justice, Accountability, Then and Now, held on September 19, 2025, at the BC Quadrangle.

This event coincides with the 53rd anniversary of the declaration of Martial Law and served as a powerful reminder of the nation’s painful past and a call to safeguard democracy, human rights, and social justice in today’s time.

Through the combined efforts of the Social Development Unit (SDU), Formation Office, the SLA Social Science Department, El Consejo Atenista, and La Liga Historia Zamboangueña, the gathering offered the community the chance to recall the events of Martial Law and to voice out our responsibilities as Filipinos to prevent the recurring of mistakes done during those times.

Attendees, dressed in black as a sign of mourning and solidarity, were urged to deepen their awareness of human rights, social justice, and good governance while fostering vigilance against corruption and impunity.

Through the power of Compañerismo, we amplify AdZU’s voice so that we never forget the lessons of the past, especially now when Truth can be so easily tainted.

Fifty-three years since Martial Law, the lesson remains clear:
silence breeds injustice.
Corruption steals dreams.
Fear mutes voices.

But this generation will not be silent.

The Ateneo Learning and Teaching Excellence Center stands in solidarity with our nation’s call for truth, accountability, and transparent governance.

We urge the youth: Speak up. Stand firm. Act with courage.
Let your voices light the path forward.

NEVER AGAIN will we be silenced.
NEVER FORGET the selfless heroes who fought for our freedom 53 years ago.
ALWAYS FORWARD to a country we can call Pilipinas kong hirang.

Day 1 of ILEAD: Ignatian Leadership Enhancement and Development Program

Today we officially opened the three-day ILEAD journey with our Higher Education student clubs and organizations here at the AdZU Lantaka Campus.

The day began with a powerful message from our University President, Fr. Ernald Andal, SJ, who reminded us that true leaders must carry two things - discernment and compassion.

We are deeply grateful to our speakers who walked with our youth leaders today. We have Fadzrati Asarud (ALTEC Training and Development Officer) on the Current Realities of AdZU Youth-Serving Organizations, Ning Gonzales (SDU Director) and Troy Gian Lim (ACLG) on Our Preferred Reality, and Rogin Eribal (ALTEC Director) on My Leadership Journey.

The day closed with an examen, inviting our participants to pause, reflect, and align their mission with their leadership.

ILEAD is made possible through the partnership of ALTEC’s LEaP! Programme, UNICEF Philippines, Accenture, Generation Unlimited, the AdZU Office of Student Affairs, and the Ateneo Center for Leadership and Governance, all rooted in AdZU’s mission of forming persons for and with others.

September 9 | Zamboanga Siege Commemoration

We remember the 2013 Zamboanga Siege.

Twelve years ago, Zamboanga City was engulfed in a siege that brought immeasurable suffering and loss. Today, the Ateneo Peace Center stands in solidarity with the City of Zamboanga as we commemorate the 2013 Zamboanga Siege. We remember the days of violence, and the profound loss endured by the community—lives lost, homes destroyed, and a city shaken to its core.

We echo the call for meaningful dialogue, restorative justice, and a sustained effort to build a peace that is not merely the absence of war, but the presence of genuine understanding and reconciliation.
