A. About Us
The Social Development Office (SDO) is the University entity that oversees the general operations of the Social Development Units (SDUs). The relation of the SDO to the SDUs will be one of coordination, formation, and administration.
- Coordination for endeavors that would entail consolidated efforts from all SDUs.
- Formation for the shared professional growth of all who engages in the social development endeavors of the University.
- Administration of fundamental office concerns: hiring/evaluating of SD personnel/ staff, approval of the official leaves of the SD personnel, consolidation of budget proposal, evaluation of activities, conduct of regular meetings, and collating of annual report.
As the SDO manages the SDUs, SDO will still posses its own independent sets of directions and programs. The SDO is headed by the Assistant to the President for Social Development (APSD).
B. Assistant to the President for Social Development
General Mandate
1. Mission: Assist the President in aligning the school units and programs with the social dimension of ADZU vision-mission.
2. Animation: Animates and coordinates the operation of the SDUs, always in relation to the rest of the University.
3. Extension: Links the social action of the university with the urgent and important concerns and movements in the wider society.
Specific Tasks: Internal
1. Chairs the meeting of the Social Development Council.
2. Oversee the professional development and team work of the SD staff.
3. Reviews and endorses annual budget and financial report of the various SDUs and submits financial report on the operation of the SDO.
4. Submits to the President semestral report on SD operation.
5. Initiate specific SDC projects, in partnership with various University units, such as trainings in consultancy, policy advocacy, new social research methodologies, as well as production of resources for social communication.
6. Help raise funds to augment the resources in support of the SD operation and to explore new projects.
Specific Task: External
1. Representation. Represents the University in various external forums on social issues as maybe allowed by the President. Establishes partnerships with other academic, civil society, government, business and other groups and organizations.
2. Updating. Monitors issues affecting Mindanao peace and development and produces regular updated situationer on Mindanao peace and development, through research, publications and public forums.
3. Advocacy. Proposes and advocates public position on selected urgent and long-term social issues, whether local, national, or global.
C. Social Development Units (SDU)
The Social Development Units (SDUs) are the specific University offices that focus on social action and community extension. While the mission of education is for all the university units to implement according to the nature of their functions, the SDUs are established precisely to take as their full time work how to link the school with the concerns of society.
Following are the SD entities in the University:

Basic Education Social Action Coordinators (Grade School, Junior High School and Senior High School)
Ateneo Peace Institute (API)
Center for Community and Extension Services (CCES)

D. Social Development Council (SDC)
The SDC is the coordinating body of the Social Development Units.
1. MEMBERSHIP. The SDC is composed of the Directors and one senior associate of each Social Development Unit, the University Communications Officer, the University Planning Coordinator, the Coordinator for Muslim Affairs, and the Social Development Office Secretary. The SDC shall be under the chairmanship of the Assistant to the President for Social Development (APSD).
2. MANDATE. The SDC is mandated to set the direction, strategy and support system in implementing the social dimension of the ADZU vision and mission. It must ensure that there is integration and coordination of this social mission in the entire university operation--- from instruction to research, from formation to extension, and even from the central administration to community and alumni affairs.
3. STANDARDS. SDC shall set formal guidelines, for the conduct of social action in the name of the University.
(a) Guidelines on the internal coordination among different units in the implementation of SDC goals and objectives;
(b) Guidelines on approving new or closing down old social development programs, on entering into partnership
with other groups and institutions;
(c) Guidelines on the management of externally funded projects;
(d) Guidelines on releasing social or political statements in the name of the University, among others.
4. MEETINGS. The SDC shall meet once a month for follow up and updates.
5. BUDGET. Expenses of the operation of SDC shall be charged under the Office of the Assistant to the President for Social Development.
