In celebration of the 75th Founding Anniversary of the Philippine Marine Corps (PMC) and under the theme “PMC @75: Anchored in Discipline, Leading Archipelagic Defense Forward,” personnel from the Marine Corps Assault Boat Battalion (MCABBN) and Field Artillery Battalion (FABN) of the Combat Support Brigade (CSBde), in partnership with Team Hammerhead Divers, conducted a SCUBASURERO and Coastal Cleanup Drive on 12 September 2025 at Great Sta. Cruz Island, Zamboanga City. This activity also formed part of the nationwide observance of Maritime and Archipelagic Nation Awareness Month (MANA Mo) 2025, which emphasizes the Philippines’ maritime identity and stewardship responsibilities.
The successful SCUBASURERO and cleanup drive showcases the Philippine Marine Corps’ commitment to discipline, service, and nation-building, as it embraces roles beyond combat in addressing environmental challenges. In line with MANA Mo 2025, the initiative underscores marine environmental awareness, inter-agency collaboration, and the Marines’ vital role as both defenders of sovereignty and stewards of the sea.

Building A Future Beneath the Waves.

On June 20, 2025, a significant environmental protection initiative unfolded as the Marine Corps Assault Boat Battalion, in collaboration with Team Hammerhead Scuba Divers, undertook the strategic deployment of three sets of artificial coral reefs along the Battalion Shoreline. These innovative structures, composed of precast cement blocks meticulously fabricated months prior, are designed to mimic the natural formations of coral reefs, creating essential habitats for marine life. By establishing these pyramid-shaped reefs, the effort not only aims to enhance local biodiversity but also contributes to the restoration of vital ecosystems that have been adversely affected by pollution and climate change. This initiative underscores the critical role that healthy oceans play in sustaining human life, as they provide food, support livelihoods, and regulate climate patterns. Moreover, the artificial reefs serve as a powerful reminder of our responsibility to protect and preserve marine environments, fostering a deeper awareness of their intrinsic value to humanity and the urgent need for collective action to safeguard our oceans for future generations.
