The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines successfully conducted a specialized Bird Identification and Recurrent On-the-Job Training on February 2-3, 2026, at Zamboanga International Airport. The training was organized by the CAAP Safety and Quality Management Office in partnership with MasterMark PH, focusing on the critical skills needed to mitigate wildlife hazards in aviation.
The intensive two-day session aimed to strengthen practical competencies and reinforce standardized protocols for managing bird and wildlife risks which is a vital aspect of airport safety designed to prevent potentially hazardous bird strike incidents.
With 33 participating personnel drawn from various airports (Zamboanga, Pagadian, Dipolog, Liloy, Ipil, Jolo, Sanga-Sanga and Ozamis), and representatives from the Airport Operators (Cebu Pacific and Philippine Airlines), the training also served to foster stronger regional collaboration and align safety practices across aviation facilities in the area.
Featuring a hands-on, field-based approach, the training emphasized real-world application through on-site observation and species identification exercises. Participants engaged directly with the airport environment, allowing them to assess actual conditions, recognize local wildlife patterns, and implement targeted mitigation strategies tailored to the unique ecological setting of Zamboanga International Airport.
This initiative highlights CAAPโs ongoing commitment to proactive safety management, continuous personnel development, and enhanced operational resilience across the Philippine aviation sector.
