Ten (10) bead bags crafted by persons deprived of liberty (PDL) at the Zamboanga City Jail Male Dormitory (ZCJMD) have found their way to the United States, and received praises from foreign buyers for their quality and craftsmanship.
This milestone was made possible through Mr. Glen Oliva, who is currently pursuing his Masterโs Degree abroad. As part of his research study, Mr. Oliva focused on the welfare and development programs of ZCJMD, particularly the livelihood programs and other interventions that enable PDL to earn, support their families, and remain productive while awaiting trial.
According to Mr. Oliva, his foreign colleagues purchased the items and were impressed by the creativity and quality of the bead bags and even praised the initiative as a meaningful way to turn time served into something productive and empowering the PDL in the process.
This success story highlights the potential of the livelihood programs at ZCJMD, which not only uplift the lives of PDL but also connect them with the wider world through creativity and purpose.
The ZCJMD sincerely thanks Mr. Oliva for his initiative in showcasing the talents of the PDL to an international audience, as well as other partners for their continuous support in promoting the skills and rehabilitation of PDL. The ZCJMD also calls on everyone to support the facility in advancing the welfare and development of PDL, and to help end the stigma against them and those who have been restored to liberty and reintegrated into society.
Various bead bags designs and other livelihood products are still available, interested individuals may personally visit the facility or contact the Welfare and Development Section at 0947-964-8673.
