Democratic Students Federation
(DSF) is a left-wing student organization in Pakistan. It was first established on 13 January 1951 in Karachi by students of the Dow Medical College, led by Mohammad Sarwar and including MRA Hashmi, Asif Jaffery, Asif Hameedi, Yousuf Ali and S Haroon Ahmed, as the organization that previously dominated campuses, the Muslim Students Federation (affiliated with the Muslim League), began to wither. From its inception, it was close to the Communist Party of Pakistan (CPP), and therefore banned along with the CPP in 1954. Its members, however, managed to infiltrate other student organizations, notably the National Students Federation founded in 1958.
It emerged as a splinter group of the National Students Federation in the early 1970s when a pro-China faction of NSF parted from its pro-Moscow parent party, the Communist Party of Pakistan.
DSF was reorganized in 1982, and quickly spread through all of Pakistan. It played an active role in uniting students, labour unions, nationalists and left wing parties to struggle against Ziaul Haq's military and fundamentalist rule. During the struggle it lost its leader Nazir Abbasi who was tortured and killed in military custody. Many of its leaders were thrown in prisons and punished. This leftist and secular organization became more popular in North-West Frontier Province (Pakhtunkhwa), which is now a center of Islamist militancy. However, its influence started to decline after the collapse of Soviet Union in the early 1990s.
In 2012 DSF again emerged as one of the powerful & influential organizations of progressive students in Pakistan. Democratic Students Federation is an active member of World Federation of Democratic Youth. One of our activists has been elected as member of the audit committee of WFDY.
DSF has been maitaining good fraternal relations with students organization of our region like AISF, SFI of India & BSU of Bangladesh.

On the 6th Death Anniversary of Shaheed Mashal Khan, the Democratic Students Federation Pakistan honors the memory of the brave student who was brutally lynched to death on the premises of his university on 13th April 2017. Mashal Khan's tragic death serves as a reminder of the prevailing culture of intolerance, violence, and extremism in our society.
Mashal Khan's death was a tragic reminder of the dangers faced by students who speak out against the corrupt administration of their universities. He was murdered for demanding his right to education and raising his voice against injustices, incompetence and corruption in his university. Unfortunately, this behavior is still prevalent in Pakistan, where universities invest more in methods that silence students instead of promoting education.
The suppression of student voices has become a serious issue in Pakistan's educational system, with universities punishing students for peaceful protests and creating an atmosphere of fear. DSF demands that universities encourage an open culture that promotes dialogue and debate. DSF also calls on the KPK government to establish a science and technology university in Mashal Khan's name, as a tribute to his sacrifice and commitment towards education and a platform for student voices.
DSF stands in solidarity with Mashal Khan's family and comrades, pledging to continue the struggle for justice and the protection of students' rights in Pakistan.

We call for 𝑷𝒓𝒐𝒕𝒆𝒔𝒕 to express our deep concern about the ongoing 𝗠𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘇𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 of Quaid-i-Azam University and forced evacuations of the students from QAU hostels, including female students, at night. This is an unacceptable violation of our basic human rights and puts our safety at risk. This university, which should be a place of learning and academic freedom, has become a target of government repression and control.
We call on all concerned citizens to join us in a peaceful protest against the militarization of Quaid-i-Azam University. We will gather at the

to voice our opposition to this oppressive and unjust policy.
The recent deployment of armed security personnel on campus is a clear violation of the right to education and threatens the safety and security of the students, faculty, and staff. We can not stand idly by while our universities are turned into military zones, where students and scholars are treated like criminals.
We demand from the Univeristy administration, and the government to immediately withdraw all military and security personnel from the campus and allow the students, faculty, and staff to resume their academic work without fear of intimidation or violence.
Join us in this important cause, and let us send a clear message to all responsibles that we will not tolerate the militarization of our universities.
