🌿 GB-EPA Inspects Marble Processing Plant in Astore

Astore | 3 September 2026:
GB-EPA Diamer-Astore Division field team inspected a marble cutting and processing plant at Danganat, Shounter, Astore.

The proponent was advised to comply with the GB Industrial Regulations, 2018, with particular emphasis on proper wastewater management, workplace health and safety, and environmental safeguards.

GB-EPA remains committed to promoting responsible industrial development and environmental compliance across Gilgit-Baltistan.

🚨 GB-EPA Intensifies Environmental Enforcement in Gilgit

Gilgit | 4 September 2026:
GB-EPA, in collaboration with the District Administration, conducted inspections of hotels, restaurants and healthcare facilities following public complaints regarding wastewater, sanitation and waste management.

🔴 Indus Hotel — Sealed
Sealed over direct discharge of black/grey water, poor sanitation and improper solid-waste disposal.

🔴 Khurak Mahal, Jutial — Sealed
Sealed for discharging kitchen wastewater directly into a drain. Three days granted for compliance.

🟠 Avari Express Hotel — 7-Day Compliance
Directed to ensure proper disposal of wastewater and kitchen waste within seven days, failing which further enforcement action may follow.

🟠 Healthcare Facilities
Excel Laboratories and Islamabad Diagnostic Centre (IDC) were directed to obtain the required environmental NOC and ensure proper segregation, handling and disposal of healthcare waste.

🌿 GB-EPA remains committed to protecting Gilgit-Baltistan’s environment, water resources and public health. Public complaints are vital for effective environmental enforcement.

Environmental laws are mandatory. Proper waste management is everyone’s responsibility.

Illegal Timber Transport Foiled in Chilas

On 29 August 2026, the Forest Department team, led by RFO Guner Farm Hameed Alam and Block Officer Raikot Muhammad Ashraf, conducted an early-morning raid at Batchulai, Chilas.

During the operation, two fully loaded vehicles transporting illegally cut Kail timber were intercepted and seized along with the timber. The case has been forwarded for presentation before the Forest Magistrate, Chilas, on Monday for further legal proceedings.

The Forest Department remains committed to protecting precious forest resources and taking strict action against illegal timber activities.

On September 2, 2026, WWF organized a SMART (Spatial Monitoring and Reporting Tool) project training session in Skardu for the staff of Central Karakoram National Park (CKNP) and Deosai National Park (DNP). Attended by GB Minister for Forest, Wildlife & Parks, Raja Nasir Khan, the session focused on equipping frontline conservation teams with modern data collection and technology-driven monitoring techniques to improve protected area management and biodiversity conservation.

SMART Project Training Session for CKNP & DNP Staff Held at Skardu

The WWF organized a SMART (Spatial Monitoring and Reporting Tool) project training session for the staff of Central Karakoram National Park (CKNP) and Deosai National Park (DNP) at Skardu on 2nd September 2026.

The training session was attended by Honourable Minister for Forest, Wildlife & Parks, Gilgit-Baltistan, Raja Nasir Khan, who appreciated the collaborative efforts for strengthening conservation initiatives and improving the capacity of frontline conservation teams.

The training aimed to enhance the capacity of field staff in modern monitoring techniques, data collection, and effective management of protected areas through the use of SMART technology. The initiative will support improved conservation planning, wildlife monitoring, and evidence-based decision-making for the protection of biodiversity and natural ecosystems in Gilgit-Baltistan.

On August 30, 2026, the Wildlife Department Gilgit-Baltistan conducted a successful waste management and cleanliness drive in Deosai National Park Supervised by DFO Wildlife Baltistan Mr. Sajjad Ahmad, the department collected and transported garbage to Skardu for proper disposal, reinforcing their commitment to preserving the park's fragile ecosystem, protecting wildlife habitats, and encouraging eco-friendly tourism.
