Protecting refugee women and girls from gender-based violence requires strong partnerships and coordinated action.

Together with UNFPA Pakistan, IOM Pakistan, partners, and government stakeholders including National Disaster Management Authority Pakistan, UNHCR supported a workshop to strengthen how organizations prevent and respond to GBV.

The workshop helped improve referral pathways and support systems so survivors can access safe, respectful, and survivor-centred services when they need them most. It also strengthened collaboration and government leadership to help ensure long-term protection for vulnerable communities.

One of the highest numbers of labour migrants from Asia to other countries is from Pakistan. IOM works with government and international partners to support safe, regular and orderly migration from the country.

We partner with Pakistan’s Federal Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development for these efforts.

During her visit to Pakistan, IOM Deputy Director General SungAh Lee met with Honourable Minister Chaudhry Salik Hussain to explore expanding the ways IOM and Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis and HRD work together in labour mobility.

The focus: regular migration pathways and labour mobility. The work is producing results. The commitment, on both sides, is to go further.

With monsoon season weeks away, preparedness is not just plans, it is vital for saving lives.

During her visit to Pakistan, IOM Deputy Director General SungAh Lee met with Lt. General Inam Haider Malik, Chairman of the National Disaster Management Authority Pakistan.

The authority leads national efforts in early warning, reducing risks of disaster, and crisis management, striving to advance in the field to help make Pakistan more resilient its climate challenges. IOM leads the shelter and water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) clusters in Pakistan.

Since the 2010 floods, IOM has reached over a million people who have been affected by natural disasters in Pakistan. The partnership enhances our collective ability to be readily available for people in need during difficult times.

In Islamabad, Deputy Director General SungAh Lee visited one of IOM Pakistan's Medical Health Assessment Centres during her two-day official visit.

One of six such IOM – UN Migration centers in Pakistan, this migration health facility supports individuals and families preparing for international journeys by providing global standards of pre-departure medical assessments and guidance on health-related migration processes to partner destination countries. These partnerships include the United Kingdom Tuberculosis (UK TB) Pre-Departure Detection Programme and Korea Tuberculosis screening.

Through these centres, IOM Pakistan also conducts Immigration Medical Examinations (IMEs) for the USA, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand.

Welcoming IOM Deputy Director General SungAh Lee to Pakistan this week, we are reminded of just how interconnected the challenges here are; displacement, climate shocks, irregular migration and how much our response depends on collective action.

During her visit, DDG Lee joined the United Nations Country Team for a coordination meeting convened by Resident Coordinator Mo Yahya. From monsoon preparedness to migration governance and the Common Back Office, the focus was clear: where our efforts connect as , we deliver more for the people who need it most.
