The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), in collaboration with FOCUS Humanitarian Assistance Pakistan and EvK2CNR, conducted a two-day training on “Glacio-Hydrological Monitoring for Adaptive Water Banking”.

The training brought together Pakistani and Italian experts, researchers, academics, and government representatives to enhance technical capacity in glacier basin analysis, water balance hydrology, and GIS-based modelling for improved climate resilience, early warning, and disaster risk reduction across Pakistan’s Hindu Kush Himalaya (HKH) region.

Dr. Roberto Neccia, Deputy Head of Mission at the Italian Embassy in Islamabad, attended as Guest of Honour. Experts from EvK2CNR and leading Italian universities delivered specialized lectures and practical sessions on glacier dynamics, climate change impacts, satellite remote sensing, and sustainable mountain water resource management.

International Delegates Visit NDMA’s National Emergencies Operation Centre (NEOC)

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), Pakistan, hosted 19 international delegates participating in the international conference “A Sustainable Future for All Living Species on Planet Earth,” organized by COMSATS in collaboration with ANSO and TWAS, for an exposure visit to the National Emergencies Operation Centre (NEOC) and Next Generation Technologies (NGT).
During the visit, the delegates were briefed on NDMA’s disaster preparedness and response mechanisms, advanced hazard monitoring systems, early warning capabilities, and technology-driven approaches to disaster risk management. The visit provided valuable insights into Pakistan’s efforts to strengthen disaster resilience through innovation, institutional coordination, and data-informed decision-making.

The interaction also provided an opportunity to exchange knowledge and experiences on disaster risk reduction, climate resilience, and sustainable development, reinforcing the importance of international cooperation and science-policy linkages in addressing emerging global challenges.

NDMA Observes National Resilience Day 2026, Reaffirms Commitment to a Resilient Pakistan

National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) observed National Resilience Day 2026 today, commemorating the devastating earthquake of October 8, 2005 and paying tribute to those who lost their lives, the survivors and all individuals and institutions who contributed to rescue, relief and recovery efforts.

The day serves as a reminder of the lessons of the 2005 earthquake and reaffirms Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening preparedness, reducing disaster risks and building resilience against an increasingly complex hazard landscape.
The ceremony was attended by Federal Minister for Water Resources Muhammad Moeen Wattoo, senior representatives of Federal Ministries, Provincial departments, academia, military services, diplomats, heads of partner humanitarian organizations, philanthropists and media.

Addressing the ceremony, Chairman NDMA Lt Gen Inam Haider Malik said that National Resilience Day is not only about remembering the past, but also about preparing for the future. He emphasized the need to translate lessons from past disasters into stronger preparedness, early warning and anticipatory action.

The development of Next Generation Technology (NGT) at NDMA represents another important step in this transformation, supporting advanced analytics, predictive modelling and emerging technologies to anticipate risks and provide timely, actionable information for decision-making.

Federal Minister for Water Resources Muhammad Moeen Wattoo highlighted Pakistan’s growing institutional capacity and experience in disaster risk management. He observed that Pakistan’s disaster management systems and institutional experience are increasingly serving as a source of learning for other countries.

On the occasion of National Resilience Day 2026, NDMA reaffirmed that resilience is a shared national responsibility, requiring the collective efforts of government institutions, communities, emergency services, academia, humanitarian partners, the private sector and civil society.

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), conducted a technical session titled “Building Resilience from the Ground Up – Planning, Architecture and Climate-Responsive Infrastructure” at the National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC), NDMA, Islamabad.

The session brought together experts from the fields of planning, architecture and engineering to discuss how disaster resilience can be embedded into infrastructure before construction begins through risk-informed planning, climate-responsive architecture and context-sensitive design.

The expert presentations covered planning for resilient settlements, climate-responsive architecture, and translating resilience principles into infrastructure at scale, with a focus on practical approaches relevant to Pakistan.

The session emphasized stronger coordination among planners, architects, engineers and disaster-management institutions to reduce infrastructure vulnerability and promote safer, more resilient and climate-responsive development.
