Sectarian Rifts: Pakistan is home to multifaceted and heterogeneous faiths, and largely constituted of a Muslim majority. 96.28% are Muslims, 0.22% are Ahmedis, 1.60% are Hindus, 1.59% are Christian, 0.25% are Schedule castes, 0.07% are people of other minorities including the Parsi, Buddhist and Sikh communities. Within the Muslim majority, a large proportion of the population is of the Sunni faith, while the rest are Shia. While it would be simple to classify the Muslim population as Shia or Sunni, it is not a simple and straight forward matter. Both faiths house a number of different sectarian ideologies due to which there are intrinsic rifts in theological perspective and practice. How do we then maintain peace in such a diverse society and how do we inculcate tolerance in the masses towards each other’s faiths? What is your take on this and suggestions

Planning Meeting at Islamabad Club to work out future strategy on 4 Feb
Faith is an optimistic energy that impels one to make the world a better place. This optimistic energy is not based upon a careful calculation of favorable outcomes, but rather, upon the unshakable conviction that love is stronger than hate, and that one can accomplish much, indeed much more than one can foresee, provided one spends one’s life loving.
Why are interfaith dialogue – meaning cooperation between religions and between religion and science – and interfaith harmony – meaning the absence of hatred among people of different faiths – so important? Because everyone wants to live in peace
Please support, on a voluntary basis, the spread of the message of interfaith harmony and goodwill in the world’s churches, mosques, synagogues, temples and other places of worship based on Love of ALLAH and Love of the Neighbour, or based on Love of the Good and Love of the Neighbour, each according to their own religious traditions or convictions.
The focus of the World Interfaith Harmony Week comes at a critical time in our world’s history, a time when we witness many societies struggling to embrace religious diversity as a vital component of peaceful communities. The need to deepen connections between people of all faiths is greater than ever, and just as tantamount is the need to do so on a global scale. We appreciate this and as a reminder to reject sectarian divisions around the world, and especially in the Pakistan.
Interfaith harmony is an essential part of the work of the Orthodox Initiative. Working in Pakistan today – a country which is hosting people of many nationalities and heritages – helps us practice our belief of assisting and interacting with all people of the world, regardless of faith.
As Pakistanis, we are proud that the was the initiator of such an important work.. We hope to cherish and respect the intention of World Interfaith Harmony Initiatives through our daily work of encouraging the vitality of faith diversity in all communities.

Aslam
