A delegation of IE University, Spain, visited the HEC Pakistan and called on Chairman HEC Prof. Dr. Niaz Ahmad Akhtar to explore academic collaboration and expand international higher education opportunities for talented Pakistani students.

Ms. Andrea Rodriguez Velez presented IE University's academic programmes, global outlook, and internationalisation initiatives, highlighting opportunities for cooperation with HEC to facilitate Pakistani students' enrolment in undergraduate and postgraduate programmes across various disciplines.

Chairman HEC appreciated IE University's contributions to higher education and highlighted HEC's international scholarship programmes. He also encouraged the delegation to engage with leading Pakistani institutions, including NUST and FAST-NUCES, to identify promising candidates and strengthen academic collaboration.

HEC, under the Talent Farming component of the Government of Pakistanโ€™s flagship US-Pakistan Knowledge Corridor initiative, has conducted a GRE preparatory workshop activity to equip students with the standardized test scores required to meet the competitive thresholds of leading U.S. universities PhD programmes and compete for the US-Knowledge Corridor scholarships.

Dr. Nasir Mehmood Khan, Member HRD, interacted with participants and highlighted the importance of GRE preparation in developing analytical thinking, problem-solving, and quantitative reasoning skills. He urged students to make the most of the training and pursue their scholarship goals with dedication and hard work.

Participants appreciated HECโ€™s initiative to provide affordable GRE training, enabling aspiring scholars to prepare for competitive examinations and pursue doctoral studies in the United States.

HEC Regional Center, Quetta, organised an online orientation on Artificial Intelligence and Its Practical Applications in Higher Education, engaging over 100 faculty members and administrative staff from 11 public sector universities across Balochistan.

Mr. Ahsan Hameed, Incharge, HEC Regional Center, Quetta, highlighted HECโ€™s vision to promote AI skills in higher education.

Dr. Sibghatullah Bazai, Assistant Professor at BUITEMS, highlighted AI applications in teaching, research and university administration, effective prompting techniques, ethical considerations, and HEC guidelines for responsible AI use.

The initiative reflects HECโ€™s commitment to digital transformation and strengthening AI capacity across the higher education sector.

HEC Pakistan, under the World Bank-funded Higher Education Development in Pakistan (HEDP) Project, has successfully upgraded its Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system from SAP ECC 6.0 to SAP S/4HANA. Operational since October 2025, the upgraded platform marks a major milestone in modernising institutional operations, strengthening financial management, and advancing technology-enabled governance.

Executive Director HEC, Prof. Dr. Zia Ul Haq, distributed the certificates and emphasised technology-driven modernisation, paperless workflows, expanded e-services, data-driven decision-making, and the development of in-house expertise for sustained utilisation of digital systems. To strengthen institutional capacity, HEC organised a certificate distribution ceremony for 86 employees who successfully completed specialised SAP S/4HANA training.

The upgraded system integrates key functions, including Financial Accounting, Funds Management, Project Systems, Procurement, Inventory and Asset Management, Materials Management, and Plant Maintenance. It also introduces automated billing and revenue management for HEC services, including the Pakistan Education & Research Network (PERN), Digital Library, and HEC Guest Houses, improving workflow efficiency, transparency, and financial oversight.

In the next phase, HEC plans to further operationalise SAP Human Capital Management (HCM), introduce Employee Self-Service (ESS) facilities through SAP Fiori-based portals, and enhance business planning, analytics, and management dashboards. These initiatives reflect HECโ€™s commitment to building a more efficient, transparent, accountable, and digitally empowered institution, strengthening governance and service delivery across Pakistanโ€™s higher education sector.

HEC and Northwest A&F University, China, have signed an MoU for the placement of Batch-III trainees under the 1,000 Chinese Agricultural Professionals Training Programme.

Dr. Nasir Mahmood, Member (HRD), HEC, accompanied by Project Director Ms. Saima Naurin, signed the document to facilitate three months of specialized training in nine priority areas.

The initiative aims to strengthen agricultural expertise, promote technology transfer and research collaboration, and equip Pakistani professionals to advance food security, climate-resilient agriculture, and sustainable development.

HEC oriented 107 Sindh-domiciled agricultural professionals at Northwest Agriculture and Forestry University (NWAFU), China, under the Prime Ministerโ€™s Initiative for Short-Term Training of 1,000 Pakistani Agricultural Professionals.

Dr. Nasir Mahmood Khan, Member HEC, highlighted the Prime Ministerโ€™s special intervention to retain Sindhโ€™s allocated quota and facilitate eligible candidates through a preparatory crash course at Sindh Agriculture University, Tandojam. He emphasized that the trainees had qualified the prescribed assessment and earned this opportunity on merit.

The session emphasized hands-on training, modern agricultural technologies, and the practical application of acquired knowledge to strengthen Pakistanโ€™s agricultural sector. The visit also included tours of university campuses and laboratories to review training facilities and explore opportunities for technology transfer and capacity building.
