Today, 54th Local Education Group held at Reform Support Unit the meeting chaired by Mr. Junaid Hameed Samo, Chief Program Manager RSU, and co-chaired Mr. Fuad Pashayev, Pakistan. Ms. Erum Rind Project Coordinator briefed progress of the SELECT Project and government contribution, aimed at improving reading skills and student retention in Sindh’s primary schools. Key included teacher capacity-building through continuous professional development, distribution of additional learning materials, early grade assessments, and the upgradation of 295 schools. Leadership and accountability were strengthened through a new attendance monitoring system, with 99% of schools now reporting data.
Ms Abeer Education Manager , briefed progress of Sindh Learning Program and System Capacity Grant , emphasizing equitable school validation and selection, prioritization of girls’ schools, and gender-responsive planning. Updates were shared on budget allocations, BOQ reviews, procurement, and the establishment of centers. Key challenges, including double targeting of schools and delayed teacher deployment, were also addressed, with strategies to resolve them through stakeholder coordination and the . The System Capacity Grant has been approved, paving the way for stronger policies, gender-responsive frameworks, and enhanced data systems through a multi-sectoral approach.
Mr. Fuad Pashayev from Pakistan expressed gratitude at the 54th LEG Meeting and UNESCO’s new role as for the project in Sindh, reaffirming commitment to out-of-school children, girls’ education, -responsive learning, and close collaboration with partners. UNESCO, as the new coordinating agency for the Global Partnership for Education, reaffirmed its commitment to advancing inclusive, sustainable, and climate-responsive education, while appreciating the collaborative efforts of the Government of Sindh, , , and partners in addressing the urgent challenge of out-of-school children.
