Launch of the Digital Scholarship Centre

On 23 September 2026, Aga Khan University (AKU) Uganda officially opened its Digital Scholarship Centre (DSC). The Centre reflects a broader change in how AKU Libraries see their role: no longer just a physical space for housing resources, the library now helps people not only to access it but also to create, interpret, communicate and share knowledge.
The DSC will be a hub where ideas meet, knowledge takes new forms, and digital tools expand what is possible in learning, research and collaboration. Teaching and research at the University can now be shared in a variety of formats, including video, photography, graphics, podcasts and data visualization.
With this new space, AKU Uganda's ideas can be made visible, digital and easily shareable with the world.

Growing Young Minds Together: Celebrating Three Years of Children’s Library Fun Day
On 12 September 2026, AKU Library Tanzania celebrated the third anniversary of its Children’s Library Fun Day at Salama House under the theme “Read, Explore, Imagine and Grow.” The event brought together children and the wider AKU community, including parents who are faculty, administrators, staff, and students, creating a vibrant environment where families read, played, learned, and enjoyed the library space together. Over the past three years, the initiative has promoted literacy and lifelong learning through activities such as storytelling, reading sessions, brain games, treasure hunts, and creative exploration. These experiences help children develop a love for reading while nurturing creativity, curiosity, critical thinking, and communication skills. The program reinforces the library’s role as a dynamic, inclusive, and family-friendly learning hub. By welcoming families into the library, it increases awareness and use of library resources, promotes a reading culture, and strengthens community engagement. Reflecting The Aga Khan University’s commitment to improving quality of life through education and knowledge sharing, the Children’s Library Fun Day provides meaningful opportunities for family interaction and community connection. It fosters a sense of belonging within the AKU community and contributes to raising a generation of curious readers, creative thinkers, and lifelong learners.

On 4th September 2026, the Aga Khan University Library (AKU) in Kampala, Uganda at the UC, Nakawa, hosted the annual Staff Children Event. This year's event was held under the theme "Discover, Create, Imagine: A Day at the Library," celebrating the wonder of reading and the boundless world of imagination it opens for young minds. The event welcomed children of staff members ranging from as young as 3 to 17 years old. True to its theme, the day was designed to inspire a love for books and learning while also nurturing the children's social, emotional, and physical wellbeing.
A rich lineup of activities kept the children engaged throughout the day. A counselling session offered the children a safe space to express themselves and build emotional resilience, while a basic first aid session equipped older children with practical life-saving skills. Literary-themed activities took centre stage in line with the event's theme, including a reading competition and storytelling sessions, alongside lively quizzes that tested and expanded their knowledge. The children engaged in painting, colouring sessions, games, and dancing, bringing high energy and plenty of laughter to the venue. The day was rounded off with a movie session, giving children a relaxing and entertaining way to unwind after an eventful day.
The AKU Uganda Staff Children Event continues to reflect the institution's commitment to family and community, offering staff children a memorable opportunity to learn, create, and connect in a nurturing and fun-filled environment.

The Aga Khan University’s library at the Faculty of Arts and Sciences (FAS) in Karachi, Pakistan, introduced a new concept, the "Human Library," for its students, faculty, and staff. Through this initiative, readers had the unique opportunity to interact with real-life Human Books. Participants selected a book of their choice from a bookshelf set up at the centre of the venue and joined the designated table for discussion. The Human Books were eleven successful women who shared their personal journeys and experiences that shaped their paths to success. The event was very constructive, as engaging conversations enabled both readers and Human Books to gain new perspectives and learn from one another.

Dr. Kulsoom Ghias, Dean, Faculty of Arts & Sciences, graced the event with her presence. In her remarks, she appreciated the library team for bringing this innovative concept to life and creating a platform that promoted knowledge sharing. She also commended the female Human Books for sharing their stories. A token of appreciation was presented to the participating authors at the conclusion of the event.

The FAS Library extends its sincere gratitude to everyone who contributed to making the Human Library a memorable and successful event.
