Shehri-CBE Shehri-CBE is a Karachi-based civil society organization working to protect the natural and built environment in Pakistan.

Building trust and cooperation

Shehri, in collaboration with Ferozabad Police Station, Jamshed Town and the local residents initiated a โ€˜Community Policingโ€™ project that aims to build trust between the community and the institution of local police through joint projects and training programs. GUTTER BAGHICHA:

Gutter Baghicha forms the lungs of old karachi, the largest continuous open green space in this city of 13 million people. Located in SITE Town along the Manghopir Road, the most densely populated part of Karachi, Gutter Baghicha is a public amenity space. (Pre-independence, it covered 1017 acres of greeery Trans-Lyari area). TURTLE CONSERVATION:

A heartfelt thank you to Prof. Dr. Taj Muhammad Lashari, Legal Consultant, Shah Abdul Latif University, Khairpur, for joining our student delegation on the educational visit to District Council Shikarpur, organized under the project, โ€œYouth Empowerment for Engaged Citizenshipโ€.

Dr. Taj Muhammad Lashari gave an insightful overview of how local government in Pakistan has evolved, from the Basic Democracies system through later reforms, with particular reference to Sindh. He stressed the importance of grassroots participation, democratic processes, and effective local institutions in strengthening governance.

A meaningful learning experience that connected students with the history, structure, and practical importance of local democracy.

A great step toward encouraging active citizenship and meaningful youth participation in local governance. Students from Shah Abdul Latif University, Khairpur, engaged directly with elected representatives and officials of District Council Shikarpur, asking about development schemes and public service delivery, and learned how local decisions shape their communities. These conversations gave students a practical understanding of how local government works and why their voices and participation matter.

A great step toward encouraging active citizenship and meaningful youth participation in local governance. Students from Shah Abdul Latif University, Khairpur, engaged directly with elected representatives and officials of District Council Shikarpur, asking about development schemes and public service delivery, and learned how local decisions shape their communities.
