Allah says: “He permits for them what is pure and forbids for them what is impure” (Qur’an 7:157). Based on this principle, many scholars have advised that acts involving impure areas or substances (najāsah)—such as private parts—should be avoided, especially when it involves the mouth. Islam places great emphasis on cleanliness and dignity, and the Prophet ﷺ said, “Purity is half of faith” (reported in Sahih Muslim). Therefore, even within marital relations, a believer is encouraged to maintain ḥayā (modesty) and ṭahārah (cleanliness) at all times.
