Officers from the Agency for Barani Areas Development (ABAD) participated in a workshop and site visit organized by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the National Agricultural Research Centre (NARC). The event provided a comprehensive overview of Climate-Smart Agriculture (CSA) strategies aimed at enhancing agricultural resilience and sustainability.

The dam constructed by ABAD in the 1980s for barani areas remains functional and has been selected by JICA as a demonstration site for experimenting with CSA concepts. The ABAD dam demo site features solar-powered pumping systems, orchard establishment, sprinkler-based irrigation, tunnel farming, and fodder production for livestock. This demonstration site serves as a model of innovation and sustainability, offering inspiration for farming communities in similar agro-ecological zones.

Solar-Powered Pumping Systems: Revolutionizing Irrigation and Supporting Sustainable Farming

Solar-powered pumping systems have significantly eased the challenges faced by farmers in irrigating their fields, especially in remote and off-grid areas. By harnessing energy from the sun, these systems eliminate the dependency on diesel or electricity from the grid, reducing operational costs and improving reliability. One of the key advantages of solar pumping systems is their environmental friendliness. They produce no greenhouse gas emissions, help reduce the carbon footprint of farming operations, and contribute to global efforts against climate change. This makes them an ideal solution for promoting sustainable agriculture
Overall, solar-powered irrigation systems are transforming agriculture by making it more efficient, sustainable, and resilient to climate.
