Chestnut Training Workshop Successfully Concluded by Dr. Fayaz Ahmad Safi

The National Tea & High value crops Research Institute Shinkiari (NTHRI) , successfully concluded a specialized training workshop on chestnut cultivation and orchard management.
The workshop provided participants with practical and technical knowledge on:
• Modern chestnut cultivation practices
• Orchard establishment and management
• Plant care and propagation
• Pest and disease management
• Improving productivity and fruit quality

Certificate Distribution
At the conclusion of the training, certificates were presented to the participants in recognition of their successful completion of the workshop and their active participation throughout the program.
The training initiative reflects NTHRI’s commitment to capacity building, knowledge transfer, and the promotion of high-value horticultural crops. Such programs are an important step toward strengthening technical skills and promoting sustainable chestnut production in the Hazara region.

چیس نٹ ٹریننگ ورکشاپ کی کامیاب تکمیل کے بعد شرکاء میں سرٹیفکیٹس تقسیم کیے گئے۔ اس تربیتی پروگرام کا مقصد چیس نٹ کی جدید کاشت، باغبانی، نگہداشت، بیماریوں سے تحفظ اور بہتر پیداوار کے حوالے سے عملی اور جدید معلومات فراہم کرنا تھا۔
ورکشاپ کے اختتام پر شرکاء میں سرٹیفکیٹس تقسیم کیے گئے، جو ان کی تربیت اور عملی سیکھنے کی تکمیل کی حوصلہ افزائی کا ذریعہ ہیں۔
نیشنل ٹی اینڈ ہائی ویلیو کراپس ریسرچ انسٹی ٹیوٹ (NTHRI)، شنکیاری کی جانب سے ایسے تربیتی پروگرام کسانوں اور باغبانوں کو جدید زرعی ٹیکنالوجی سے روشناس کرانے اور خطے میں چیس نٹ کی پیداوار کے فروغ کے لیے اہم قدم ہیں۔

The Chestnut Training Workshop was successfully concluded at the National Tea & High Value Crops Research Institute (NTHRI), Shinkiari. The training focused on modern and practical aspects of chestnut cultivation, including orchard establishment, plant management, propagation, pest and disease management, and techniques for improving productivity and fruit quality.

At the conclusion of the workshop, certificates were distributed among the participating trainees in recognition of their successful completion of the training program.

The initiative reflects NTHRI’s continued commitment to capacity building, knowledge transfer, and the promotion of high-value horticultural crops in the region. Chestnut Collection/Selection
Chestnut collection is underway under the guidance of Dr. Faiyaz Ahmed to identify and evaluate promising chestnut types that are well adapted to the climatic conditions of the Hazara Division.
The collected chestnuts will be studied and evaluated for their quality, performance and potential for future cultivation. This effort will contribute to the selection of better genetic material and improved chestnut varieties for research, orchard development and sustainable production in the region.

اشوگندھا کی کاشت
اشوگندھا (Ashwagandha) ایک اہم طبی اور خوشبودار جڑی بوٹی ہے جس کا سائنسی نام Withania somnifera ہے۔ اسے عام طور پر Indian Ginseng بھی کہا جاتا ہے۔ اس کی سب سے زیادہ اہمیت اس کی جڑوں کی وجہ سے ہے، جو مختلف ہربل مصنوعات اور روایتی ادویات میں استعمال ہوتی ہیں۔
*زمین اور آب و ہوا*
اشوگندھا نسبتاً خشک اور گرم آب و ہوا میں اچھی پیداوار دیتی ہے۔ ہلکی، ریتیلی یا میرا زمین جس میں پانی کا نکاس اچھا ہو، اس کے لیے موزوں ہے۔ ایسی زمین جہاں پانی کھڑا رہتا ہو، فصل کے لیے مناسب نہیں۔
پاکستان میں گرم اور نسبتاً خشک علاقوں میں اس کی کاشت کی جا سکتی ہے، جبکہ ہزارہ کے نسبتاً سرد علاقوں میں موسم اور پالا خاص طور پر مدنظر رکھنا ضروری ہے۔
*کاشت کا مناسب وقت*
عام طور پر اشوگندھا کی کاشت برسات کے آغاز میں کی جاتی ہے، لیکن علاقے کے موسم کے مطابق وقت میں تبدیلی ہو سکتی ہے۔ بہتر پیداوار کے لیے مقامی موسمی حالات کے مطابق بوائی کا وقت مقرر کرنا چاہیے۔
*بیج اور بوائی*
اشوگندھا عموماً بیج کے ذریعے کاشت کی جاتی ہے۔ زمین کو اچھی طرح تیار کرکے بیج ہلکی گہرائی میں بوئے جاتے ہیں۔ بیج کا بہت گہرا ہونا اگاؤ کو متاثر کر سکتا ہے۔
فصل کے ابتدائی مرحلے میں جڑی بوٹیوں کی تلفی بہت ضروری ہے تاکہ پودوں کو مناسب خوراک، روشنی اور نمی مل سکے۔
*آبپاشی*
اشوگندھا زیادہ پانی کی فصل نہیں ہے۔ ضرورت سے زیادہ آبپاشی جڑوں کو نقصان پہنچا سکتی ہے۔ عام طور پر ہلکی آبپاشی اور اچھی نکاسی آب بہتر رہتی ہے۔
*کھاد*
زمین کی زرخیزی کے مطابق نامیاتی کھاد یا مناسب مقدار میں گلی سڑی گوبر کی کھاد استعمال کی جا سکتی ہے۔ کیمیائی کھاد کا استعمال مٹی کے تجزیے کی بنیاد پر کرنا زیادہ بہتر ہے۔
*کیڑے اور بیماریاں*
زیادہ نمی اور پانی کھڑا رہنے سے جڑوں کی بیماریاں پیدا ہو سکتی ہیں۔ فصل کی باقاعدہ نگرانی، مناسب فاصلہ اور اچھی نکاسی آب بیماریوں کے خطرے کو کم کرتے ہیں۔
*فصل کی برداشت*
عام طور پر اشوگندھا کی فصل تقریباً 5 سے 7 ماہ میں برداشت کے قابل ہو جاتی ہے۔ جب پتے خشک ہونے لگیں اور بیر سرخی مائل ہو جائیں تو جڑوں کی برداشت کا وقت قریب ہوتا ہے۔
پودوں کو زمین سے نکال کر جڑوں کو صاف کیا جاتا ہے، پھر انہیں مناسب سائز میں کاٹ کر سائے میں اچھی طرح خشک کیا جاتا ہے۔
*معاشی اہمیت*
اشوگندھا ایک ہائی ویلیو میڈیسنل کراپ بن سکتی ہے، خاص طور پر اگر اچھی کوالٹی کی جڑ پیدا ہو اور مارکیٹ میں مناسب خریدار موجود ہو۔ تاہم بڑے پیمانے پر کاشت شروع کرنے سے پہلے بیج، پیداوار، خریدار اور مارکیٹ ریٹ کی مقامی سطح پر تصدیق کرنا ضروری ہے۔
