1st BN 389th Regiment (BCT) is hosting a Drill Sergeant Candidate Program Try-out Event in Fort Buchanan and Fort Allen, Juana Diaz, on February 21, 2026.

This try out will include an AFT (minimum 70 points in each event) and an interview with the Senior DS and 1SG. We encourage to all candidates the day of the event to bring copies of last ACFT/AFT, STP and NCOER.

DS Muñoz will be representing the 1st MSC & the 1/389th DS BN at the 98th Training Division IET Drill Sergeant of the Year Competition. DS Muñoz sets a high standard within himself and his unit.

1/389 Drill Sergeants served in the 2023 US Army Reserve Command Best Squad Competition as cadre members at Fort McCoy, WI. Our Drill Sergeants proudly represented the ArmyReserve/1st MSC in preparation before and during the competition.

Our Drills got to see all best squad candidates first hand compete at USARC level for a chance to win the title of Best Squad.
