Communication Emergency Response Team When activated, ARVC members will operate from an Incident Command location or from the well equipped Manati EOC.
Amateur Radio Volunteer Corps provide emergency radio communications in support of the Puerto Rico Emergency Management's mission by handling emergency traffic during such emergencies when normal public service communication systems are not functioning or are overloaded. ARVC will respond for declared emergencies which may involve severe weather threats, natural disaster, large-scale accidents, i
ndustrial accidents, hazmat incidents, weapons of mass destruction, terrorism, war, civil defense/preparedness, and homeland security. Multiple HF/VHF/UHF operating positions are provided by the City along with digital Packet and APRS capability. ARVC members are all volunteers from the local community and dedicated to the mission of serving the citizens of Manati and Puerto Rico. Each member has undergone extensive training and certified in NIMS and ICS protocols. Simulated emergency training events are provided a minimum of two times each year. Training nets are conducted three times each month with each local county & city group providing on-air training a minimum of two times each month. All members have a minimum participation requirement for training as well as a required public service event participation requirement. Each member is required to attend a National Weather Service Skywarn school at least once every two years.
