Only a few recruiters has the experience of enlisting fathers and sons, here is my story behind this privilege…
It was 2020 we’re I met SSG Miranda. Back to the day he was a Civilian Automotive Mechanic and full of energy seeking for a place to grow serve his country and community and also to provide more to his family. Quickly we became friends during the process and July 20th he became a Soldier in the PR Army National Guard.
SSG Pedro Miranda has limitless potential physically and mentally but more emotionally. He conquered 2026 PR ARNG Best Warrior Competition NCO rising among the best NCO’s in our institution. Also, he was selected for full time Military Technicians for the PRARNG tactical vehicle fleet recently.
Past week, his youngest Jesus D Miranda Vargas took the step to follow, serve and conquer his own future. I had the pleasure and blessing to provide guidance for him and be present with the family. Memories flourished from the time I had the same experience enlisting my son.
PVT Miranda will now start a new chapter on his life. Challenging days are set in the horizon but he will have his father providing cover at his 6’. He is limitless also and a bright future awaits to us from whom he will become.
Make us proud PVT!!!

Today I feel an immense sense of pride.
Not because of one competitor… but because of four warriors with whom I share a story — different chapters, different paths, but the same foundation of commitment, discipline, and heart.
SSG Luis D. Montalvo
My former battle buddy at the 1st 296th BN. From day one, I admired his passion for the uniform — but even more, his courage and discipline. Later, he became my protégé in the Recruiting and Retention BN, and our bond evolved into one built on mutual respect. What I admire most is that he has fulfilled every mentor’s dream — when the student becomes the master. That is legacy.
SGT Pedro Miranda
I recruited him a few years ago, but he quickly earned something greater than a contract — my trust and respect. He is more than a recruit; he is a lifelong friend. There was a moment — he knows exactly which one — where he proved his loyalty in a way I will never forget. I remember when he first asked me for guidance to start mountain biking. Then he wanted to compete. Today, he is a champion in Puerto Rico. That same dedication he shows on the trail, he shows in uniform. But above all, what defines him is his humility.
SPC Joey Ortega
If you’re planning on chasing him, prepare to suffer! He represents the new generation — our youngblood soldiers and our future legacy. Honestly, one of the easiest enlistments of my career! Committed, disciplined, and humble. Watching his growth has been a privilege, and I am proud of the soldier and man he is becoming.
SSG Harry Cotto
We met at the 1/296th INF Air Assault Tryouts. High-speed from the start. A few conversations there were enough to understand what he’s made of. There is tremendous potential in this young Sergeant — and I have no doubt he will rise and shine very soon.
I have no favorites. What fills me with gratitude is knowing we share a story — a brotherhood — a standard.
Make it count, brothers.
Conquer your goals.
Write your legacy. 💪🔥

Some stories don’t fade with time—they grow stronger. This is one of them.
In the spring of 2020, at the Cabo Rojo Recruiting Office, SFC Julio Ramirez and I worked side by side with all applicants, and that’s when I first met Alexander Lugo. From that very first day, his mind was already racing far ahead of the moment. Big dreams. Big vision. Sometimes all at once. It could be exhausting—but his passion, his humility, and his fire were impossible to ignore.
My commitment has never ended at enlistment. Not because I’m a recruiter, but because I am an NCO—and I always will be.
Alexander challenged me, tested my patience, and yes, probably gave me a few gray hairs 😅. But every time he sat across from me seeking guidance, I knew he was serious about becoming more. We trained together before he left for BCT/AIT, and I witnessed something powerful—weakness leaving his body, and doubt leaving his mind.
I have witnessed his growth, his perseverance, and his transformation. I’ve seen a young man become a leader. Today, the Puerto Rico Army National Guard gains not just an Officer, but someone forged by discipline, sacrifice, and purpose.
When he called me forward to render his first salute as an Officer, I felt chills. That moment reminded me why we invest, why we mentor, and why we never stop believing in our Soldiers.
Congratulations, 2LT Alexander Lugo. I am proud of the Officer you’ve become—and even more proud of the man.
