In August 2012, when the UN released its report Gaza in 2020: A liveable place?, they could not have imagined what the world would look like in 2020: cities under lockdown, restrictions on movement, border closures, widespread unemployment, economic collapse, fear and anxiety and, above all, uncertainty about what the future holds.
For Gaza’s population of 2 million people this reality is nothing new.

The COVID-19 pandemic has brought unprecedented challenges, economic collapse and strict lockdowns in many parts of the world. For the people of Gaza, this reality is nothing new.

Withdrawal of occupation forces from the east of the city reveals the widespread destruction of the infrastructure; destruction of water 7 wells, the destruction of several main lines for water networks and sewage network. Widespread destruction in the streets, sidewalks, gardens and street islands. In addition, technical teams found that 5 solid waste vehicles for the transfer of waste from city to the main landfill have been destroyed by the occupation military forces.

Intussen wordt het gebrek aan schoon water in Gaza steeds nijpender. Gaza heeft een paar eigen waterbronnen, maar die kunnen al niet in normale omstandigheden aan de behoefte voldoen. De Verenigde Naties waarschuwde daar jaren geleden al voor. De oorlog van nu verergert die situatie alleen maar.

Last night, Israel has targeted and destroyed Al-Sheja'yya area, the main neighborhood in Gaza City. More than 60 citizens (mainly, women and children) have been killed in this massacre, in addition to 30,000 civilian citizens who have left their houses. Those crimes are against humanity and against the international law.

The second martyr from the Municipality: The Municipality of Gaza employee Mr. Mustafa Mohammed Enaya has martyred today afternoon, who works in the financial department. Mr Smama wounded in the bombing of Shiek Redwan Neighborhood this afternoon. The Municipality of Gaza condemns by strongest terms the killing of innocent municipality workers who continue to work during these harsh circumstances to deliver the basic services to the citizens of Gaza city.

Israeli aircraft has targeted a Zeitoun water well No. 1 in Al- Zeitoun area and destroy it completely. This water well feeds more than 20,000 people in Al-Zeitoun neighborhood.

Several buildings at the Municipality of Gaza headquarters has exposed to serious damage, including main historical building, as a result of Israeli airstrikes last night with at least 500,000 US $ losses. The Municipality of Gaza as it condemns this brutal attack, confirms that the municipality of Gaza is the local independent authority body for Gaza City which provides services to the citizens without discrimination or bias. Targeting the municipality and its facilities is a war crime which is against the International laws.
