More than an opera, Eu Sou Alma is a powerful human story. Through the eyes of Alma, a young Palestinian girl from Gaza, the work gives voice to the experiences, hopes, fears, and resilience of a people living under genocide and extraordinary hardship. It is a moving reminder that behind every headline are human lives, dreams, and stories that deserve to be heard.

Through the exceptional artistic vision of Diogo Faro, João Malha, Iolanda Rodrigues, Maria Madalena, and Jorge Salgueiro, this remarkable production transforms art into a bridge of understanding, empathy, and solidarity.

At a time when compassion and human connection are more important than ever, Eu Sou Alma stands as a beautiful example of how culture in Portugal can foster awareness, promote dialogue, and express solidarity with the Palestinian people. It reminds us that art has the power not only to move audiences, but also to unite communities around shared values of dignity, justice, hope, and humanity.

We extend our heartfelt appreciation to Associação Setúbal Voz, the Municipality of Setúbal, and all the artists, performers, and organisers whose dedication made this unforgettable evening possible.

Always a pleasure to share a glimpse of Palestine’s rich culture and heritage. Last week, we were delighted to participate in West Asia Day, part of the Festival of Asian Cultures 2026, at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities of the University of Lisbon, organised by the Asian Studies League.

It was a pleasure to meet students, professors, and visitors and to introduce them to the Palestinian culture through books, traditional embroidery, olive wood handicrafts, and other artisanal pieces that reflect our heritage and identity.

Grateful for the opportunity to engage with the academic community and the wider public through this exchange of culture and dialogue.

Os Ministros dos Negócios Estrangeiros do Estado da Palestina, da República Árabe do Egito, do Reino da Arábia Saudita, do Estado do Qatar, do Reino Hachemita da Jordânia, da República da Turquia, da República Islâmica do Paquistão, da República da Indonésia, da República do Djibuti, da República Federal da Somália, do Sultanato de Omã, da República do Sudão, da República do Iémen, da República Libanesa, da República Islâmica da Mauritânia, da República Popular Democrática da Argélia, da República Popular Bangladesh e do Estado do Kuwait condenam veementemente a medida ilegal e inaceitável tomada pela chamada região da “Somalilândia” ao abrir uma suposta “embaixada” na Jerusalém ocupada. Isto constitui uma violação flagrante do direito internacional e das resoluções internacionais pertinentes, e representa uma infração direta ao estatuto jurídico e histórico da Jerusalém ocupada.

Os Ministros reafirmam a sua rejeição categórica de quaisquer medidas unilaterais que visem consolidar uma realidade ilegal na Jerusalém ocupada ou conferir legitimidade a quaisquer entidades ou acordos que contrariem o direito internacional e as resoluções pertinentes das Nações Unidas. Reiteram que Jerusalém Oriental é território palestiniano ocupado desde 1967 e que quaisquer medidas destinadas a alterar o seu estatuto jurídico e histórico são nulas e sem efeito legal.

Os Ministros sublinham ainda o seu total apoio à unidade, soberania e integridade territorial da República Federal da Somália e a sua rejeição inequívoca de qualquer soberania unilateral.

Words are not enough to express the gratitude and admiration we feel for your courage, humanity, and moral clarity. While injustice continues, you stood on the side of dignity, freedom, and human life.

Your journey carried far more than aid and witness — it carried the hope of people who refuse to accept occupation, violations of international law, collective punishment, and impunity as normal.

Thank you for reminding the world that solidarity still lives in human hearts. Thank you for standing with the Palestinian people not only in words, but through action, risk, and presence.

O Ministério dos Negócios Estrangeiros e dos Expatriados condena veementemente a interceção e apreensão, pelas forças de ocupação israelitas, de embarcações pertencentes à Flotilha Global Steadfastness, com destino à Faixa de Gaza, em águas internacionais, bem como a detenção ilegal de participantes de vários países de todo o mundo que transportavam ajuda humanitária. Isto constitui mais um crime com o objectivo de encobrir os crimes contínuos de genocídio, fome e o cerco imposto por Israel ao povo palestiniano na Faixa de Gaza.
O Ministério considera este ataque um acto de pirataria na sua forma mais pura e uma grave violação do direito internacional, incluindo a Convenção das Nações Unidas sobre o Direito do Mar, bem como uma grave violação do direito internacional humanitário e dos princípios dos direitos humanos. O ataque teve como alvo específico uma iniciativa humanitária civil pacífica, reflectindo mais uma vez a política da ocupação de usar a força, a punição colectiva e a impunidade contínua, permitindo-lhe agir como uma entidade acima da lei, sem qualquer dissuasão.
O Ministério sublinha ainda que a continuação do bloqueio israelita à Faixa de Gaza visa obstruir qualquer horizonte político genuíno e oportunidades de paz, incluindo o enfraquecimento do progresso rumo à segunda fase do plano de paz para Gaza, que se baseia na retirada israelita da Faixa, ao mesmo tempo que agrava a catástrofe humanitária enfrentada pelo povo palestiniano.
O Ministério expressa também a sua profunda preocupação com o destino e a segurança dos ativistas detidos e responsabiliza Israel, enquanto potência ocupante, pelas suas vidas e segurança, particularmente à luz de relatos que indicam o uso da força, ataques a navios e barcos com armas, interrupção de pedidos de socorro e obstrução de embarcações no mar em condições perigosas.
O Ministério reafirma que Israel não tem soberania sobre a terra, o mar ou o espaço aéreo do Estado da Palestina e que as tentativas da ocupação de impor o controlo pela força sobre as rotas marítimas e a assistência humanitária constituem uma violação flagrante do direito internacional e um ataque à vontade popular internacional solidária com o povo palestiniano.
O Ministério apela à comunidade internacional, incluindo as Nações Unidas, a União Europeia e as organizações humanitárias e de direitos humanos, para que cumpram as suas responsabilidades legais e morais, confrontando colectivamente este crime, impondo sanções legais dissuasoras imediatas a Israel e às suas forças navais por cometerem crimes em águas internacionais, exercendo pressão urgente para pôr fim ao bloqueio imposto à Faixa de Gaza, assegurando a libertação imediata dos activistas e proporcionando protecção internacional às missões humanitárias.
O Ministério saúda também todos os participantes e apoiantes internacionais da Flotilha Global de Firmeza e valoriza muito a sua coragem e nobres posições humanitárias, afirmando que a sua mensagem continuará a ser uma fonte de apreço e orgulho para o povo palestiniano.

Today, in collaboration with the Faculty of Law of the University of Lisbon, we commemorated the 78th anniversary of our ongoing Nakba through a deeply meaningful event on Palestine and International Law.

Together with diplomats, parliamentarians, solidarity groups, colleagues, and members of the Palestinian community, we shared a moment of remembrance, resilience, and unwavering hope. The screening of Aida Returns by Carol Mansour touched us all deeply — a powerful reminder that despite displacement and injustice, the Palestinian spirit lives on.

I was deeply moved to receive the Medal and Diploma of Honour from the Dean of the Faculty of Law of the University of Lisbon, a gesture I will carry with great gratitude and appreciation.

My sincere thanks to Professor Doutor Eduardo Vera-Cruz Pinto for his commitment, solidarity, and dedication. We look forward to continuing this meaningful collaboration.

Foi uma honra participar hoje na Cerimónia Oficial de Entrega do 31º Prémio Norte-Sul do Conselho da Europa, no Parlamento Português, presidida pelo Presidente da Assembleia da República e com a presença do Presidente da República Portuguesa, bem como de ilustres convidados, membros do corpo diplomático, parlamentares e representantes internacionais.

O prémio deste ano foi atribuído a Bragi Guðbrandsson e Rami Abou Jamous pelo seu compromisso com os direitos humanos, a dignidade, a democracia e a justiça.

Um dos momentos que mais emocionou todos os presentes foi ver Rami participar online, a partir da Palestina, com a sua família — impossibilitado de estar fisicamente presente devido à realidade devastadora que o nosso povo continua a enfrentar. Mesmo através de um ecrã, a sua presença levou a voz, a dor e a resiliência da Palestina para dentro da sala.

Este reconhecimento não é apenas para Rami, mas para todos os jornalistas palestinianos que continuam a relatar a verdade em circunstâncias inimagináveis ​​e extremamente perigosas, pagando muitas vezes o preço mais elevado simplesmente por contarem a história do seu povo ao mundo.

Honoured to attend the Official Award Ceremony of the 31st North-South Prize of the Council of Europe at the Portuguese Parliament today, presided over by the President of the Assembleia da República and attended by the President of the Portuguese Republic, alongside distinguished guests , diplomatic corps, members of Parliament and international representatives.

This year’s prize was awarded to Bragi Guðbrandsson and Rami Abou Jamous for their commitment to human rights, dignity, democracy, and justice.

One of the moments that deeply moved everyone in the room was seeing Rami join online from Palestine with his family — unable to be physically present because of the devastating reality our people continue to endure. Even through a screen, his presence carried the voice, pain, and resilience of Palestine into the room.

This recognition is not only for Rami, but for all Palestinian journalists who continue to report the truth under unimaginable and extremely dangerous circumstances, often paying the highest price simply for telling the story of their people to the world.
