**Portugal Approves Stricter Citizenship Law**

Portugal’s president, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, has approved new changes to the country’s citizenship law, marking a shift toward stricter immigration policies.

Under the updated rules, the minimum residency period for most foreign nationals is expected to **increase beyond the current 5 years**, with longer timelines and tighter eligibility conditions. The law also introduces **stronger integration requirements**, including language proficiency and knowledge of Portuguese society.

Additional changes affect **children born in Portugal to foreign parents**, who will now face stricter conditions to obtain citizenship.

The reform reflects Portugal’s broader move to **tighten access to nationality**, though some details may still depend on implementation and legal interpretation in the coming months.

A vogal do Conselho Diretivo da AIMA, Dra. Luísa Ribeiro, participou como palestrante na Reunião Plenária da "EPS Statistics Network", que decorreu ontem, no Porto.

A Agência da União Europeia para o Asilo (EUAA) e a AIMA coorganizaram duas reuniões técnicas dedicadas às atividades da referida Agência Europeia na análise e investigação de dados: "EPS Statistics Network Plenary Meeting" e "EPS Analysis and Research Network".

Estas duas reuniões, que decorreram na cidade do Porto, foram dedicadas ao intercâmbio de informações estratégicas e práticas de intercâmbio de dados, bem como ao conhecimento das tendências de asilo e as implicações do novo Pacto sobre Migração e Asilo no intercâmbio e análise de dados.

AIMA and EUAA coorganized 2 Technical Meetings

AIMA’s Board Member, Luísa Ribeiro, took part as a speaker in the EPS Statistics Network Plenary Meeting, which took place in Porto yesterday.

The European Union Agency for Asylum (EUAA) and AIMA coorganized two technical meetings devoted to activities of the European Agency in data analysis and research: EPS Statistics Network Plenary Meeting and EPS Analysis and Research Network.

These two meetings were dedicated to strategic information exchanges and data exchange practises as well as to situational awareness over asylum trends and the implication of the new Pact on Migration and Asylum on data exchanges and data analysis.
