Cyprus in Portugal - Embassy of the Republic of Cyprus in Lisbon

ENG: Yesterday, 25 May, the Embassy of the Republic of Cyprus 🇨🇾 in Portugal 🇵🇹 hosted a working breakfast in Lisbon with the Heads of Mission of the EU Member States accredited to Portugal, in the framework of the Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the European Union. 🇪🇺

The Embassy was honoured to welcome Mr. Adnan Z. Amin, Chairman of the World Energy Council, and Mr. Jean Barroca, Deputy Minister for Environment and Energy, as guest speakers.

The discussion focused on energy transition and energy security in the new geopolitical context.
The Embassy of Cyprus warmly thanks all participants for their valuable contributions and constructive exchange of views.

On May 20, at the iconic Theatro Circo in Braga, the Embassy of the Republic of Cyprus proudly attended and supported the staging of “Foreign Women” (“Mulheres Estrangeiras”), a powerful theatrical work by Cypriot artist Valentina Sofokleous. 🇨🇾

The event brought together culture, dialogue, and artistic expression, highlighting the importance of intercultural understanding and the role of the arts in addressing contemporary social realities.

Through an engaging and thought-provoking performance, “Foreign Women” offered the audience a moving reflection on identity, displacement, and the experiences of women across borders.

The Embassy of the Republic of Cyprus was honoured to support this important cultural initiative, that contributes to the strengthening of cultural ties between Cyprus and Portugal. 🇵🇹

The Embassy of the Republic of Cyprus 🇨🇾 in Portugal 🇵🇹 is supporting the theatrical performance “Foreign Refugee Women” by Theatro Roi, taking place on 20 May at the historic Teatro Circo in Braga, following the invitation of CTB – Companhia de Teatro de Braga.

Based on the literary work of Olga Kozakou-Tsiara and directed by Valentina Sofokleous, the performance is a powerful reflection on exile, memory, dignity, and the universal need for peace and human coexistence.

The Embassy proudly grants its patronage to this cultural initiative, which further strengthens the artistic and cultural ties between Cyprus and Portugal.

Cyprus 🇨🇾 was represented at the Europe 🇪🇺 Day celebrations organised on 8 May by Agrupamento de Escolas Joaquim Inácio da Cruz Sobral. 🇵🇹

The event brought together students, teachers, parents, and the wider school community in a wonderful celebration of European unity, culture, and diversity through country-themed stands representing different Member States of the European Union.

We were especially pleased to see such a beautifully organised stand dedicated to Cyprus, showcasing our island’s culture and European spirit with enthusiasm and creativity.

The Embassy warmly congratulates everyone involved in the organisation of this inspiring initiative and thanks the school community for promoting the values of friendship, cooperation, and mutual understanding that unite Europe.

Yesterday, May 4th, the Embassy of the Republic of Cyprus 🇨🇾 in Portugal 🇵🇹 organized a visit for the Ambassadors of the European Union accredited in Portugal, to the city of Évora, within the framework of the Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the EU. 🇪🇺

The Ambassador of Cyprus, Elpidoforos Economou, expressed his sincere gratitude for the warm welcome and excellent program organized by the local authorities to the EU delegation.

This was followed by a welcoming speech from the Mayor of Évora, Mr. Carlos Zorrinho, who highlighted the city current and future potential.

During the session, the President of Évora 2027, Mrs. Maria do Céu Ramos, presented the European Capital of Culture project, detailing the "Vagar" concept, outlining the main aspects of the planned activities. The President of the Alentejo and Ribatejo Regional Tourism Authority, Mr. José Santos, emphasised the tourism potential of the Alentejo region, focussing on its authenticity, its cultural offerings, and its growing international appeal.

The presentation was followed by a guided tour of the city, offering participants the opportunity to discover Évora's rich cultural heritage and its most emblematic monuments.

This initiative underscored the value of cultural exchange and dialogue, further strengthening ties between Cyprus, Portugal, and the European Union, member states.
