Ngarchelong Leaders Seek Support for Bai ra Mengellakl Roofing Project
On April 9, 2026, the Mengellakl Klobak of Ngarchelong State, accompanied by Governor Ngiraibai, met with His Excellency President Surangel Whipps Jr. to formally request assistance for the Bai ra Mengellakl Roofing Project.
During the meeting, the Klobak emphasized the cultural and social importance of the bai, which serves as the heart of Ngarchelong State. As the primary venue for traditional meetings, community gatherings, and important ceremonies, the bai plays a vital role in preserving customs and strengthening unity among the people.
Recognizing the increasing demand placed on the structure, the Klobak expressed the urgent need to improve and develop the bai particularly its roofing to ensure it can safely and effectively accommodate all functions held within the community.
The delegation conveyed their appreciation for the President’s time and consideration. “Thank you, Mr. President,” the Klobak said following the meeting, expressing hope for continued collaboration to support the cultural and infrastructural needs of Ngarchelong State.

Ngarchelong State Governor Dwight Ngiraibai has officially signed the Fiscal Year 2026 budget for Ngarchelong State totaling $1.2million, marking an important step forward in strengthening public services, supporting state employees, and improving government facilities for the community.
The budget signing was witnessed by members of the 21st Ngarchelong State Assembly, including Speaker and Chief Uong er Etei Mathias Erbai, along with several assembly members and staff.
A majority of the Assembly attended the event, demonstrating unity and strong cooperation between the executive and legislative branches of the Ngarchelong State Government.
One of the key highlights of the FY2026 budget is the inclusion of 401K retirement contributions for state employees, an important initiative aimed at improving the long-term financial security and stability of the state workforce. In preparation for implementing the retirement program, three state staff members recently traveled to Guam to attend the ASC Conference, where they participated in discussions and training related to establishing and managing the 401K plan for the state government.
The budget also includes funding to refurnish the new Ngarchelong State Office, which houses the Office of the Governor and the State Legislature and Ngarchelong State Delegate Mr. Timothy R. Sinsak.
The improvements will help ensure that the facilities are properly equipped to support government operations and provide a more functional and welcoming environment for the community members who visit the office for services and meetings.
Governor Ngiraibai expressed his appreciation to the members of the State Assembly for their collaboration and support in approving the budget. Leaders present noted that the signing reflects a positive and productive working relationship between the Governor and the State Legislature, focused on the shared goal of serving the people of Ngarchelong.
Community members who attended and followed the discussions surrounding the budget have also expressed encouragement and appreciation for the government’s continued efforts to invest in employee welfare, responsible budgeting, and improvements to public facilities. Several residents noted that the inclusion of the retirement program and the development of the new state office represent long-term investments that will benefit both government employees and the wider community.
As Ngarchelong approaches the state election scheduled for August of this year, Mengellang Legislators member Mr. Yohei Merur publicly expressed his support for Governor Ngiraibai, recognizing the leadership and cooperation demonstrated during the current administration. At this time, no candidate has announced plans to run against the incumbent governor, reflecting continued confidence and support from members of the community.
The FY2026 budget represents Ngarchelong State’s commitment to strengthening government services, supporting its workforce, and maintaining cooperation between leadership and the People of the great state of Ngarchelong.
