🎉 The first TOCFL Novice Test at the 2026 Palau Test Center was successfully held on May 29 at the TTC of Palau High School (PHS)!
Out of 36 registered students, 33 attended the exam. Two students from the outer islands and one student attending a family funeral were unfortunately unable to join. To help the process run smoothly, PHS specially prepared student ID cards for all test takers, and Principal Smyth Rdang personally came to encourage students before the exam began. 💪✨
What made this even more special was that all participants were complete beginners who only started learning Mandarin this January! To help students feel confident and familiar with the test format, Mandarin teacher Freda Huang organized three mock exams and designed colorful learning materials with 150 vocabulary words and 150 picture cards. 📚🀄
The exam was jointly supported by ICDF staff Chun Yen Yang and Tzu-Chien Hsia, along with teachers Freda Huang and Jessie Shih from PHS and Mindszenty High School. Technical support was provided by PHS IT teacher Larry Rdiall.
The test went smoothly, and many students shared their excitement and gratitude for the opportunity to participate in an international Mandarin proficiency test for the very first time! 🌟

We are happy to see local farmers successfully producing healthy piglets through improved swine management practices.
With the support of the Taiwan Technical Mission, officers from the Bureau of Agriculture and JICA veterinary volunteers, farmers received hands-on training in essential newborn piglet care, including teeth clipping, iron injection, and proper early-stage management. These important practices help improve piglet survival and growth rates.
By strengthening farmers’ knowledge and confidence in breeding and raising their own piglets, this initiative aims to encourage more local pig production and increase the supply of locally produced pork in Palau.
Together, we continue working toward stronger food security and sustainable livestock development for local communities. 🐖🌱🇵🇼

🥚🐣 Building Future Poultry Capacity: Workshop on Egg Incubation and Chick Rearing 🐥🌱
The Taiwan Technical Mission (TTM) and the Bureau of Agriculture (BoA) jointly organized a workshop on egg incubation and basic chick care for students from Palau High School, staff members from KSG-Solid Waste Management Office, and local chicks breeder.
The workshop introduced fundamental concepts of poultry incubation and early chick management under local production conditions, including egg selection, temperature and humidity management, hatchery hygiene, brooding management, and basic chick health observation.
During the session, participants discussed poultry production development in Palau, as well as practical considerations related to local climate conditions, facility limitations, and future hatchery management. The workshop also provided an opportunity for knowledge exchange among students, government personnel, and local poultry breeders.
Through lectures and discussion, the activity aims to gradually strengthen local understanding and technical awareness of poultry incubation and chick rearing, while supporting future agricultural education and local poultry production development. 🇹🇼🤝🇵🇼

✨ Taiwan–Palau Cultural Exchange at MHS ✨
Earlier this May, students from Taiwan’s Xishan Elementary School joined MHS students for a meaningful Taiwan–Palau cultural exchange experience. 🇹🇼🇵🇼
Through interactive classroom activities and daily communication practice, students not only strengthened their Mandarin skills, but also deepened their understanding of Taiwanese and Palauan cultures. 🗣️📚
As part of the exchange activities, students worked together to make traditional Taiwanese taro balls using locally produced taro grown in Palau by the Taiwan ICDF Technical Mission.🍠 Students also enjoyed Taiwanese snacks together, creating a warm and joyful environment for cultural sharing and friendship.
The exchange provided students with valuable opportunities to use Mandarin in authentic situations while fostering closer educational and cultural connections between Taiwan and Palau.
We are sincerely grateful to the teachers and students from Xishan Elementary School, as well as the Taiwan ICDF Technical Mission, for their support in making this meaningful experience possible.

🐣Building Local Hatching Capacity🐣
This month, Taiwan Technical Mission (TTM) engaged with the Koror State SWM Office to discuss hatchery space design and system planning. Based on existing conditions, an initial setup has been arranged, with further adjustments to follow.
During the process, brooding cage design and hatchery setup were discussed and adapted to fit local conditions, with basic structures now in place.
At this stage, the focus is on understanding site conditions and preparing for future incubation, including temperature management and chick handling considerations under local settings. This process may gradually support the development of local chick production.
As the system continues to take shape, it is also laying the groundwork for future practical experience in incubation and chick management, contributing to the gradual strengthening of local poultry production capacity.

Core Difference: Food Waste vs Commercial Feed
👉 Food waste (kitchen leftovers) = Low cost but inconsistent
👉 Commercial feed = Higher cost but controlled and efficient
Economic Comparison
If you have to use the food waste
Disease & Biosecurity Risks (Very Important)
Main risks of feeding food waste:
• African swine fever
• Foot-and-mouth disease
• Salmonella, E. coli
👉 Many countries (e.g., Taiwan, Japan) strictly regulate or ban swill feeding.
👉 Safe practice requires:
• Heating to ≥90°C for at least 1 hour
