Last week saw the Economic Advisory Group (EAG) for Palau convene its fourth meeting on island. The EAG was formed in summer 2022 and renewed pursuant to the 2023 Compact Review Agreement (2023 CRA). The mandate of the group is work with the government of Palau to help identify and overcome the challenges and to benefit from the opportunities Palau faces. The EAG consists of five members, two appointed by each government and a fifth nominated by Palau and selected by the United States. The members met with a wide range of institutions and stakeholders during the week to make their assessment and will share their independent findings recommendations with Palau, the United States and other development partners. The Development Symposium 2025 will be held on Thursday, November 20, 2025, at the Ngarachamyong Center.
This important event will bring together government officials, private sector leaders, civil society organizations, development partners, and community members to exchange ideas, share experiences, and explore pathways for Palau’s development.

Friday 28th March saw the inaugural meeting of Palau’s Macroeconomic Committee. The aim of the committee is to gather information on Palau’s recent economic performance and identify trends to inform forecasts about economic growth to assist government planning. The committee consists of officials from bureaus of budget and planning including statistics, tax reform, national treasury, financial economic intelligence services with support from Graduate School USA and IMF PFTAC. This is a step forward in improving coordination and accuracy of economic projections!📈📊

📢Yesterday representatives from the Ministry of Finance spoke at SDA Elementary to talk to students about economic concepts such as resources, scarcity and trade and how this relates to the work M*F do managing the nation’s money.💰
This is part of M*F’s outreach and Economic & Financial Literacy initiative to highlight how what is learnt in the classroom relates to policy making in government. 🏛️
The aim is to foster an interest and understanding of economics and finance from a young age, something that is crucial for the development of the nation. 👧🏽👦🏽
