Doha, 30th April 2026

His Excellency Ambassador Dr. Omar Jah, Ambassador of The Gambia to Qatar, held an interactive meeting on Thursday morning with Gambian students at the embassy in Doha. The meeting aimed to strengthen institutional communication and explore ways to support students academically and professionally.

This marks the first meeting of its kind between the diplomatic mission and students, during which both sides discussed a number of issues related to the situation of Gambian students in Qatar, as well as ways to enhance cooperation with the embassy in a manner that serves their interests.

During the meeting, the President of the Students, Sheikh Sidiya Jaiteh, delivered a presentation highlighting the key needs of the students. These included greater participation in national events, opportunities to meet visiting officials, and improved access to scholarships and training opportunities within the embassy and government institutions in The Gambia.

In response, the Ambassador explained that the embassy had planned to celebrate National Day on February 18, but its coincidence with the holy month of Ramadan, along with financial and logistical challenges, prevented it from taking place. He also noted that organizing meetings with visiting officials depends on their official schedules.

The Ambassador reaffirmed ongoing efforts to provide educational opportunities, urging students to make good use of their time by developing their skills, particularly in language learning and gaining practical experience.

For his part, Deputy Ambassador Abubakar Kamara emphasized the importance of unity and good conduct, noting that students represent their country abroad. He praised their discipline and affirmed that β€œthe embassy’s doors are always open to them.”

The meeting was attended by several embassy officials, such as Abubacarr S Camara Deputy Head of Mission, Musa Bah Counsellor , Aisha S Jabbie First Secretary and Finance Attache Haroun Jassey

This meeting comes as part of the embassy’s efforts to strengthen communication channels with students and listen to their aspirations, contributing to the support of their academic journey and enhancing their presence within the academic community.
