احتفل مركز نظم المعلومات الجغرافية بتاريخ 23 مايو 2024 بيوم نظم المعلومات الجغرافية 2024، وهي المناسبة التي تجمع متخصصي نظم المعلومات الجغرافية من مؤسسات الدولة والمؤسسات الأكاديمية والجهات الأخرى المعنية في الدولة في كل عام.
أما احتفال هذا العام فله خصوصية وهي مرور 35 عام على بدء العمل بنظم المعلومات الجغرافية في دولة قطر وقد تحدث السيد/ عامر محمد الحميدي - المدير المساعد لمركز نظم المعلومات الجغرافية في المناسبة قائلا ”في العام 1989 كان البذرة التي زُرعت ونَمت وكانت نتائجها التطبيق المتكامل على مستوى الدولة وهذا لم يكن ليحصل لولا الجهود المتراكمة والعمل الدؤوب والرؤيا الطموحة من الرعيل الأول من الزملاء والمسؤولين الذين عملوا في جميع مؤسسات الدولة على تبني واستخدام تقنيات نظم المعلومات الجغرافية في فترة كان يعتبر البعض هذه الوسيلة الهامة التي تساعد على معالجة وعرض وتحليل كميات هائلة من البيانات المكانية والمساعدة على اتخاذ القرار، كان البعض يعتبرها ترفا لا لزوم له وأثبتت الأيام مدى أهمية نظم المعلومات الجغرافية ودورها الذي لا يمكن الاستغناء عنه“.
بعد ذلك تم عرض فيديو قدم مقارنة ما بين الماضي لبدايات العمل بنظم المعلومات الجغرافية في الدولة وما تلاها من تطور حسب كل نوع من الأنشطة الرئيسية لمركز نظم المعلومات الجغرافية مع إحصائيات تشير بالأرقام الى النقلة النوعية التي طالت هذه الانشطة بأنواعها.
المتحدث الرئيس في الحفل كان من شركة بحوث نظم البيئة (إزري)، السيد ريتشارد بودن، نائب المدير العام للشرق الاوسط وافريقيا وآسيا الوسطى الذي تحدث حول البنية التحتية للمعلومات المكانية للدول وريادة دولة قطر في هذا المجال.
سلط احتفال هذا العام الضوء على المدى الايجابي الذي أثر به التطور في تقنيات الجغرافيا المكانية خلال السنوات التي مضت والتعرف على قصص نجاح نظم المعلومات الجغرافية في مؤسسات دولة قطر ومتابعة تطورها على مر السنين. وقد اشتملت العروض والمشاركات على كل من: معهد قطر لبحوث البيئة والطاقة، تسمو، هيئة تنظيم الاتصالات، معهد قطر لبحوث الحوسبة، هيئة الاشغال العامة، وزارة البيئة والتغير المناخي وكهرماء.

Bathymetric LiDAR Specialist Vacancy
The Center of GIS is seeking a skilled LiDAR Analyst with specialized experience in bathymetric LiDAR technology to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of LiDAR data processing, analysis, and a specific focus on bathymetric applications. You will be responsible for processing, analyzing, and interpreting LiDAR data for various projects, particularly those involving underwater topography and hydrographic surveying.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's or higher degree in a related field such as geospatial science, remote sensing, or geomatics.
Proven experience as a LiDAR analyst with a focus on bathymetric applications.
Proficiency in LiDAR data processing software (e.g., TerraScan, Fledermaus, CARIS HIPS and SIPS, LAS tools, RiHYDRO) and GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS, Global Mapper).
Strong understanding of geospatial concepts, coordinate systems, and data integration.
Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
Ability to work collaboratively in a team and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Experience with hydrographic surveying and knowledge of marine geomatics is a plus.
Understanding of IHO standards and specifications
Willing to re-locate to Qatar
Minimum 5 years’ experience in bathymetric projects
Key Responsibilities:
Data Processing:
Manage and process LiDAR data collected from both airborne and terrestrial systems.
Conduct quality control assessments to ensure the accuracy and integrity of the data.
Convert and merge bathymetric LiDAR data with other geospatial datasets, such as topographic or hydrographic data.
Bathymetric LiDAR Analysis:
Analyze bathymetric LiDAR data to create underwater elevation models, identify submerged features, and measure seabed depths.
Extract relevant information to support coastal engineering, navigation, and environmental projects.
GIS Integration:
Integrate LiDAR data into Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to create 3D visualizations and geospatial analysis.
Develop GIS models and tools for further analysis and visualization of the data.
Reporting and Documentation:
Prepare detailed reports, maps, and charts summarizing the findings from LiDAR data analysis.
Maintain comprehensive documentation of data processing and analysis methods.
Collaboration:
Collaborate with other geospatial professionals, hydrographers, and surveyors to ensure seamless data integration and analysis.
Communicate and present findings to project teams and clients.

Qualifications:
Should have obtained B.Sc. in Surveying Science (Full time – 4 Years) from a recognized university with at least 15 years continuous experience in Geodetic Surveys.
Excellent knowledge in Leica Geo Office (LGO 8.4), Microsearch Geolab, Esri ArcGIS, AutoCAD, Microsoft Office, Oracle SQL Form and AutoLISP.
Experience should include Establishing and maintenance of Geodetic Control Stations, Geodetic Network Designing, Geodetic Observation and Data processing, Network adjustments.
General knowledge in Qatar Survey Manual.
Candidates who have Qatar survey experience in government sector will be given priority.
Additional Qualifications
Working knowledge in Mobile Mapping System and Static Scanning System.

The Center for Geographic Information Systems (CGIS), under the Ministry of Municipality, has signed a three-year contract for the “Procurement and Ex*****on of Airborne Technology for National Data Capture and Mapping for the State of Qatar”.
The objective of CGIS as the national mapping agency and authoritative geospatial hub across the Qatar Government is to develop its in-house capabilities to acquire airborne data for processing and transform it into digital maps and geographic information products and fostering CGIS remote sensing services.
Through this project, CGIS will establish an advanced aerial mapping system comprising aircraft, aerial cameras, LiDAR and hyperspectral sensors, hardware, and software that can execute an end-to-end data production lifecycle, from aerial image collections to processing and transforming the data into geospatial information products.
The project outputs include nationwide, high-resolution, orthorectified images, vector geospatial data, and 3D city model mapping. The first phase of the project will be delivered by May-June 2022, to be used by all Qatar Agencies before Qatar hosts the FIFA World Cup in November 2022.
