Launch Ceremony of a New Romanian Translation of Selected Ghazals of Hafez in Bucharest

On 6 June 2026, the official launch ceremony of a new Romanian translation of selected ghazals by the renowned Persian poet Hafez Shirazi was held at the Bucharest International Book Fair.

The event was attended by professors and students of Iranian Studies, Persian Language and Literature, as well as Romanian enthusiasts of Iranian culture and civilization.

During the ceremony, Mr. Javad Karimi, Chargé d’Affaires a.i. of the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Romania, and Ms. Sara Estrabadian, the translator of the volume, addressed the audience on the distinguished place of Hafez’s poetry in the rich tradition of Persian literature and its enduring influence beyond Iran's borders. They also highlighted the profound appreciation of Hafez’s works among prominent European poets, scholars, and intellectuals.

The publication of this new translation represents a valuable contribution to promoting Persian literary heritage and further strengthening cultural ties between the Islamic Republic of Iran and Romania.

The Shahnameh is not only a monumental reconstruction of "Iran" as a continuous linguistic, historical, cultural, and civilizational identity, but also an inexhaustible treasure trove of wisdom, ethics, and knowledge.

By composing the Shahnameh and reviving the Persian language, Ferdowsi safeguarded the heritage of his ancestors from fragmentation and oblivion, ensuring the enduring continuity of Iranian civilization.

شاهنامه، نه فقط بازسازی «ایران» به‌مثابهٔ یک تداوم زبانی، تاریخی، فرهنگی و تمدنی بود بلکه گنجینه‌ای بی‌پایان از خرد، اخلاق و حکمت است. فردوسی با آفرینش شاهنامه و احیای زبان فارسی، میراث نیاکان را از گسست و فراموشی دور کرد و موجب استمرار تمدنی ایران شد.
