At Novo Selo Training Area, the Balkan Elite Allied Sniper Team 2026 brought together sniper teams from 🇧🇬 Bulgaria, 🇫🇷 France, 🇮🇹 Italy, 🇪🇸 Spain, and the 🇺🇸 United States, all contributing to Forward Land Forces across NATO’s Eastern Flank. Over the course of a demanding week, participants faced complex tactical and technical challenges, including long-range engagements in variable conditions, urban scenarios, and coordination with joint assets. Each scenario tested not only precision and resilience, but also the ability to operate seamlessly in a multinational environment. This high-intensity competition strengthened interoperability, refined procedures, and enhanced Allied readiness demonstrating once again that NATO’s strength lies in its ability to train, adapt, and act together.

Teamwork in the skies! ✈️💪

🇧🇬 Bulgarian Su-25s and 🇷🇴 Romanian multi-role "PUMA" helicopters joined forces with 🇮🇹 Italian JTAC teams from NATO Battlegroup Bulgaria, during a dynamic Close Air Support training.

For the first time, Bulgarian Su-25s were involved in Close Air Support operations, confirming the progressive development of operational capabilities. The aim was to enhance coordination and interoperability within the Joint Fires framework.

Centrul Naţional de Instruire Întrunită "Getica" / Cincu JNTC - 🇧🇪 Belgian infantry are conducting a village assault scenario, reinforcing Allied readiness and interoperability on NATO’s South-Eastern flank. Through realistic training, they demonstrate professionalism, cohesion, and the collective commitment that underpins NATO’s deterrence and defence posture.

At HQ MND-SE, BGEN Pedro Miguel do Vale Cruz, COM of the Portuguese Intervention Brigade, was welcomed by MGEN Cornel Tonea-Bălan. The engagement underlined the importance of aligned efforts, operational cohesion, and continued cooperation among Allied forces.

Chief of the Hellenic Army General Staff, LGEN Georgios Kostidis, visited HQ MND-SE, where he was welcomed by COM HQ MND-SE, MGEN Cornel Tonea-Bălan.
The visit reaffirmed the strong partnership between Allies and highlighted the importance of cooperation, interoperability, and shared commitment to collective defence on NATO’s South-Eastern flank.

Soldiers from NATO Multinational Battle Group Bulgaria completed an Advanced First Aid Refresher Course, practicing life-saving procedures in realistic scenarios.

Conducted by qualified instructors from Novo Selo Training Area and supported by U.S. Army personnel, the training strengthened medical skills and teamwork among Allies.

COM HQ MND-SE, MGEN Cornel Tonea-Bălan participated in the Distinguished Visitor Day of Exercise , a command post exercise with simulation conducted in France.
The event provided an important opportunity for Allied leaders to observe high-intensity training, exchange expertise, and reinforce interoperability across forces.
