Interreg NEXT Romania-Ukraine Interreg NEXT Romania-Ukraine The minimum co-financing to be ensured by the two countries is 10% of the EU contribution.

For the period 2014-2020, the European Union will finance the Joint Operational Programme Romania-Ukraine, through the European Neighbourhood Instrument (ENI). The program addresses the border area between Romania and Ukraine, and will contribute to the overall objective of the European Neighbourhood Instrument: evolution towards a region of prosperity and good neighborliness, achieved through Cross Border Cooperation actions to the benefit of neighboring EU Member and Non-member States. The program area consists of:
Romania: counties: Satu Mare, Maramures, Botosani, Suceava, Tulcea
Ukraine: oblasts: Ivano-Frankivsk, Zakarpatska, Chernivtsi, Odesska

EU financial allocation to this program is EUR 60 million. The programme has been prepared by the Joint Programme Committee with consultation of stakeholders from the programme area. The programme was approved by the European Commission in December 2015.

The 6th Meeting of the Monitoring Committee of the Interreg NEXT Romaniaโ€“Ukraine Programme 2021โ€“2027

On 15 October 2026, the Monitoring Committee met online, launching the programming process for cross-border cooperation between Romania and Ukraine post-2027.

๐Ÿ”น Key decisions included assigning the Committee responsibility for coordinating the programming process, ensuring the continuity of the future Programmeโ€™s Managing Authority within Romaniaโ€™s Ministry of Development, Public Works and Administration, and maintaining the current cooperation area.

๐Ÿ”น Participants agreed on the programming timetable, the allocation of responsibilities and the application of the partnership principle under the new EU legal framework.

๐Ÿค The meeting also reviewed implementation progress. All projects selected under the four calls have been contracted, with 81 projects worth EUR 66.6 million currently underway in environment, healthcare, education, good governance and border management.

The meeting brought together representatives of the Monitoring Committee, the Managing Authority, the National Authorities of Romania and Ukraine, and the European Commission.

Here is how these European funds are making a direct impact:

๐Ÿ’š 6 joint projects (โ‚ฌ2.21M EU funding) dedicated to preserving nature, local ecosystems, and green spaces.
๐Ÿ“š 24 projects (โ‚ฌ12.36M EU funding) modernising schools, upgrading digital infrastructure, and ensuring equal access to education.
๐Ÿฅ 10 projects (โ‚ฌ9.31M EU funding) delivering state-of-the-art medical equipment and better healthcare services for local communities.
