My name is Andreea. I rescue abandoned dogs in Cluj County, Romania.
I have been doing this for many years, long before Benji and I officially founded Andreea & Benji’s Happy Dogs five years ago.
Together, we built a shelter in our own yard, on a spacious piece of land. It took more than two years of work, with help from people who believed in us, to create covered kennels and places where rescued dogs could run, play and finally feel safe.
Hundreds of dogs have since found loving homes. Today, more than 90 dogs remain in our care.
Behind every rescue are people trying to find enough time, strength and money to keep going. I am one of those people.
Using my own savings, I bought a house, hoping that this place would also allow me to save more lives. I planned to create a separate quarantine space in the yard for vulnerable puppies who needed somewhere safe before joining the other dogs.
Then a fire destroyed the house.
Standing in front of what remained, I saw the work I had put into it and everything I had hoped to do there reduced to ashes.
The existing shelter is separate. The dogs still need us every single day. Their food, treatment and care cannot wait while I try to recover from this loss.
It is difficult to ask for help for myself after spending so many years asking for them. But I cannot rebuild alone.

• Help with building materials, transport or skilled labour, if you or someone you know can support work in Romania.
• Introduce us to a business, supplier or organisation that might be willing to help.
• Share this appeal in your own country, in local communities, animal rescue groups, Romanian diaspora groups and business networks where fundraising posts are welcome.
I hope to rebuild using a steel structure and insulated panels. The exact materials and quantities will be confirmed with a designer as part of the required planning and approval process.
