π³πΏπ€πΈπ§ Celebrating Temotu Province Second Appointed Day π
The New Zealand High Commission extends its warmest congratulations to the people of Temotu Province as you mark your Second Appointed Day.
This is a time to celebrate Temotuβs unique identity, rich cultural heritage, and the strength and resilience of its communities. We join you in celebrating the progress made and the aspirations you hold for a prosperous and sustainable future.
New Zealand values its connection and partnership with Temotu Province. We are proud to stand alongside you. The progress being made across the province reflects strong local leadership and community commitment, and we are pleased to support this through partnerships that respond to Temotuβs priorities, including education, climate resilience, livelihoods, and service delivery.
Through the Local Climate Adaptive Living (LoCAL) programme, Temotu Province is leading locally driven climate adaptation efforts, including coastal protection and improved water systems, with support from the Solomon Islands Government, UNCDF, the European Union, and New Zealand.
Communities in Temotu are also working to improve access to safe and reliable water through the rehabilitation of the Graciosa Bay water system. This work, led locally by Grenergy Pacific with support from ChildFund New Zealand, will benefit 18 villages while also strengthening community skills and climate resilience. ChildFund New Zealand is also working with young people and Temotu Youth Council to expand youth leadership and entrepreneurship.
In Nifiloli, communities are taking forward the EMPOWER project to strengthen livelihoods and respond to climate risks, supported through the KIWA Initiative and a range of international partners.
Temotu Province is also playing a key role in shaping marine spatial planning, helping to guide how ocean resources are protected and used for future generations. We are pleased to support some of this through our CaBSmart MSP partnership with the Solomon Islands Government to strengthen climate and biodiversity outcomes.
The Waka fo Edukeison partnership will also support education delivery across Temotu Province through funding, training and mentoring, with support from the Ministry of Education and Human Resources Development.
Luesalo Rural Training Centre is also being supported with new school infrastructure and training opportunities, in partnership with from Caritas Aotearoa and the Solomon Islands Association of Vocational Rural Training Centres (SIAVRTCS).
