Venezuela will maintain a firm defense of respect for the Geneva Agreement
By asserting that "El Essequibo is Venezuela!", the President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, ratified that the National Government will continue the fight in defense of the Geneva Agreement, the only mechanism in force for the resolution of the territorial dispute over the territory of the Guyana Esequiba.
“Venezuelan men and women will continue the tireless and firm fight to defend respect for the historic Geneva Agreement and the territoriality of our dignified nation. The truth accompanies us," he emphasized through his account on the social network Twitter, .
The statements respond to the position established by Venezuela before the incidental sentence of the International Court of Justice (ICJ), issued this Thursday, April 6, which gives rise to the review of the illegal and fraudulent conduct of the United Kingdom in the Arbitration Award of the October 3, 1899.
06/04/2023
Venezuela celebrates that the ICJ recognizes that it can review British fraud in the Award of 1899 and validates the validity of the Geneva Agreement in the controversy over the Esequibo.
The Bolivarian Government, through Executive Vice President Delcy Rodríguez, celebrated this Thursday that the incidental sentence of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) of this day validates the arguments presented by the Venezuelan State on November 17, 2022, and recognizes that it can review the illegal and fraudulent conduct of the United Kingdom in the Paris Arbitration Award of 1899 and, in addition, make clear the existence and validity of the Geneva Agreement of 1966.
Accompanied by the Sector Vice President for Political Sovereignty, Security, and Peace, and Minister of People's Power for Defense, Chief General Vladimir Padrino López, and Foreign Minister Yván Gil, Vice President Rodríguez recalled that Venezuela submitted to the ICJ, subject to the recognition of its jurisdiction, preliminary objections because it was not a fundamental party in the trial, which was unilaterally requested by the Cooperative Republic of Guyana, as is the United Kingdom of Great Britain, a country that consummated the fraud in the 1899 Arbitration Award that stripped the Essequibo territory to Venezuela at that time.
She pointed out that in the ruling issued this Thursday on the preliminary objections, paragraph 107, it refers that "even if the Court in its judgment on the merits had to rule on certain behaviors attributable to the United Kingdom, this will not prevent the Court from exercising its competence precisely to review the illegal, fraudulent conduct of the United Kingdom, which is what Venezuela has been pointing out. The ICJ says that this illegal and fraudulent conduct, and its consequences, can be reviewed.
“Venezuela is the only historical heir to the territory of Guayana Esequiba. The United Kingdom never had title to that territory, much less could it have inherited it from the Cooperative Republic of Guyana, which gained its independence in 1966. Venezuela was born as a Republic with the territory of Guayana Esequiba”, stated the Vice President.
He also denounced that 13 companies are illegally exploiting the territory in a claim for concessions granted by Guyana, which it does to enrich the large oil transnationals, which are the ones that have financed their lawyers in the case before the ICJ.
On behalf of the Government of Venezuela, Rodríguez reiterated to the Cooperative Republic of Guyana that it has the obligation to abide by the 1966 Geneva Agreement for the resolution of the border disagreement, "there is no other way, it is the only valid, current mechanism, duly deposited with the United Nations for the resolution of this territorial dispute."
“Venezuela will continue to defend the territory in all areas. In the next few days, President Nicolás Maduro is going to address the country and will consult all sectors of the Homeland on the implications of this incidental sentence," She announced.
06/04/2023
The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela has taken note of the incidental decision, of historical connotation, issued by the International Court of Justice today, regarding the preliminary objections presented by our country against the unilateral claim of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana on the validity of the arbitral Award of October 3, 1899.
For the first time in its history, the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela attended the International Court of Justice in defense of its sovereignty and territorial integrity over Guayana Esequiba. In June and November 2022, Venezuela demonstrated, with rigorous, forceful, and abundant documentation, the fraudulent mechanisms used by the United Kingdom of Great Britain to seize its territory.
The United Kingdom of Great Britain was the State that, since 1840, forged maps and set up a stratagem to perpetrate the fraudulent arbitration committed against Venezuela in Paris in 1899. The United Kingdom was finally the one that signed and committed itself to the Geneva Agreement in 1966 to find a practical and mutually satisfactory solution to the territorial dispute.
Venezuela celebrates that the incidental judgment of the Court today validates our arguments: firstly, by recognizing that the illegal and fraudulent conduct of the United Kingdom of Great Britain can be reviewed and secondly because it makes clear the existence and validity of the Agreement of Geneva in 1966, the only valid instrument to settle this territorial dispute. It is worth noting that the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela does not recognize the judicial mechanism as a means of resolving the aforementioned dispute, since it excludes the nature and purpose of this agreement.
The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela will exhaustively evaluate its implications and adopt all the measures at its disposal to defend its legitimate rights and territorial integrity.
Venezuela reminds and reiterates to the Cooperative Republic of Guyana that the 1966 Geneva Agreement is the only valid and current instrument to resolve the dispute over the territory of Guyana Esequiba, through direct political negotiations for the sake of a practical and satisfactory solution for both parties.
The Bolivarian Government of Venezuela summons all the Venezuelan people to the national union in defense of the historical and territorial legacy of our Father Liberator Simón Bolívar and in compliance with the constitutional values of peace, integrity, and sovereignty in the strictest respect for Law International.
The Sun of Venezuela is born in the Esequibo!
"God grants victory to perseverance". Simón Bolívar.

The Bolivarian Government rejects the accusations of the ICC prosecutor Karim Khan on the matter of "Venezuela I"
The Government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela categorically rejects the allegations -unfounded- made by the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC), Karim Ahmad Khan KC, in his response to the observations presented by Venezuela in the so-called matter " Venezuela I”.
Once again, the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court shows a clearly prejudiced vision in relation to Venezuela, reproducing without consideration the campaigns that seek to instrumentalize the issue of justice and human rights for political purposes, to the detriment of the seriousness and rigor that is expected from such an important international body.
The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela presented on February 28, 2023 before the International Criminal Court, a solid document that disproves all the fallacies of the media and geopolitical aggression launched to accuse Venezuela of alleged crimes against humanity, which have never occurred .
The statements recently presented by the Prosecutor in no way distort the irrefutable statements made by Venezuela. On the contrary, they confirm that the ICC lacks jurisdiction to hear the facts presented by Prosecutor Khan, in light of the provisions of the Rome Statute and the jurisprudence of that international body.
Finally, the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela confirms that it will continue to exercise all available actions to make the truth prevail and defend its rights as a Nation, in the face of this expression of "lawfare" that openly uses the institutional framework of the International Criminal Court for political purposes.
