In celebration of the Maritime and Archipelagic Nation Awareness Month (MANAMo), Ambassador Patrick A. Chuasoto welcomed the members of the Stockholm Association of International Affairs (UF Stockholm) and Professor Birgit Tremml-Werner of the Stockholm University, to a lecture on the Philippines’ maritime and archipelagic domain.

The lecture and the open forum thereafter was an opportunity for the students and the Embassy to engage in a discussion on international law, diplomacy, and the pressing issues on global foreign policy. The Embassy underscored the Philippines commitment to an international rules-based maritime order and peaceful dispute resolution among states.

Held every September, MANAMo celebrates the Philippines’ maritime heritage and recognizes the country’s vital role as an archipelagic nation.

Tayo na! Nu kör vi! Bortglömda Ön (Forgotten Island) is NOW SHOWING in Sweden!💥🏝️🇵🇭

Based on Filipino culture and mythology, Bortglömda ön takes you on a rollercoaster ride with its fast-paced story on friendship and self-discovery. The adventure happens on the magical island of Nakali, where best friends Jo and Raissa come face to face with creatures they grew up hearing from their Filipino families.

At the special screening of Bortglömda ön, the Embassy was happy to meet with Ms. Editha Domingo who voices Lola Fatima in the Swedish version of the movie, and Mr. Johan Baldesten, Digital Manager at the United International Pictures. Both expressed their excitement for the Filipino representation that the movie brings since they also trace their roots to the Philippines.

The guests were also treated to sumptuous Filipino dishes from Kanto Bistro owned by Chef Elle Philips. The Filipino restaurant was tapped as the official catering partner at the exclusive screening of Bortglömda ön.

Bring your family and friends and catch Bortglömda ön (The Forgotten Island) this weekend!

Kammerchor Manila bagged awards at the International Baltic Sea Choir Competition (IBSCC): Second Place, Grand Prix Round, Best Interpretation of the Compulsory Piece, Special Award from the Latvian National Centre for Culture, and Audience Award. As the only Filipino and Asian choir, Kammerchor Manila competed with choirs from Latvia, Norway, Finland, Estonia, Lithuania, and Ukraine, from 18 to 20 September 2026.

The awards it received from the International Baltic Sea Choir Competition served as icing on the cake with Kammerchor Manila’s sweet victory as the Grand Prix Winner of the “Prof. Georgi Dimitrov” choral competition in Varna, Bulgaria, just a week earlier. Their win in Bulgaria qualified the choir to the European Grand Prix for Choral Singing (EGP), the most prestigious event in the choral music world, which will be held in Arezzo, Italy, in September 2027.

The Embassy was represented by First Secretary and Consul Christiansen D. Cabahug and Cultural Officer Ma. Luisa F. Roque, who were joined by Filipinos in Riga in cheering for and supporting Kammerchor Manila.

Considered as one of the Philippines’ premier church choirs, Kammerchor Manila is a non-profit choral organization founded in 1992 by Professor Fidel Calalang, Jr.. It is presently under the musical direction of Artistic Director and Conductor Anthony Go Villanueva.
