Setting up classroom libraries in Serekunda!

Books are the tool that turns learning to read into loving to read. With books in hand, children decode, practice, and discover — building real reading skills day by day.

And when teachers have the right books, they can nurture both: the skill of reading, and the love of it. 💛

This is what we do at The Mbife Foundation — one classroom, one child, one book at a time.

Grateful to ActionAid International The Gambia and Africell for making this possible.

The Mbife Foundation set up brand new classroom libraries at Bijilo Lower Basic School ready for school start!

Books turn learning to read into loving to read — helping children decode, practice, and discover, one page at a time.

This is what we do at Mbife — one classroom, one child, one book at a time. 💛

Huge thanks to for sponsoring the shelves, and ActionAid International The Gambia for filling them with books.

Yesterday, our team visited Serrekunda Lower Basic School to plant seeds for young dreamers.

Thanks to the generosity of our partners at Africell Impact Foundation, we delivered colorful classroom bookshelves to host vibrant new worlds. We spent the day carefully filling every shelf with wonderful children’s books donated by ActionAid International The Gambia.

As kids step into their classrooms next week, they won't just see books—they'll find their very own classroom libraries, overflowing with fresh stories, endless wonder, and quiet corners to dream. 📖✨

One of my favourite books for International Literacy Day!

Say Zoop! by Hervé Tullet is pure joy — sounds, silliness, imagination and creativity all wrapped up in a book. It’s a wonderful reminder that reading doesn’t always have to be quiet or serious. Sometimes the best reading has us shouting, laughing, moving and playing! 💜

Today, we celebrate all the different ways children can fall in love with books.
What’s a children’s book you absolutely love? Tell us below! 👇🏾

Literacy is more than learning to read. 📚✨

It is the moment a child discovers that a book can make them laugh. Ask questions. Imagine somewhere new. Understand something differently. Or simply want to pick up another book.

This International Literacy Day, we're asking children across our Mbife libraries one little question:

“What book made you…?”

Made you laugh?
Made you curious?
Made you dream?
Made you want to read another?

Because raising a nation of readers starts with giving children the space, the books and the joy to discover what reading can mean to them. 💜

Now it's your turn:
📖 What book do you remember loving as a child? Tell us in the comments.
