📍Somewhere in Singapore…taking a chance opened a new career path.

Roy began his career at PSA as a chemist handling dangerous goods, making sure hazardous chemicals were moved and stored safely. It was interesting and meaningful work, but he found himself drawn to a new direction.

He took the leap and now works as a cloud engineer, finding more flexibility and balance for his numerous hobbies. Outside of work, cycling became his way to reset, meet new people and create breathing space for himself. 🚴‍♂️🌳

His story reminds us that growth starts with knowing what matters most and having the courage to choose differently. đź’

"Ever feel like you're stuck in between — too experienced for junior roles, but senior ones still feel out of reach?

You’re not alone. Many mid-career professionals go through this phase.

And that uncertainty you’re feeling doesn’t mean that you’re failing. Often, it’s simply a sign that you’re growing and figuring out what’s next.

The first step is understanding what’s really holding you back. Is there a skills gap you’d like to address? Or have setbacks, career breaks or life changes knocked your confidence?

Once you figure that out, your next step becomes clearer.

And remember that growth doesn't always mean climbing the corporate ladder — success looks different for everyone. For some, it means becoming a trusted expert in their field rather than moving into management. There's no single right answer, just the one that's right for you.

When applying for jobs, don’t just focus on years of experience or long lists of responsibilities. Instead, share real examples of challenges you’ve overcome, results you’ve delivered and the difference you made. Those are the stories hiring managers remember.

Most importantly, while advice from others can be helpful, don't lose sight of what matters to you. The right role should align with your strengths, interests and the kind of growth you’re looking for.

You're not stuck — you're simply stepping into a new chapter of your career journey.”

Whether you're taking your first steps into the workforce; considering a mid-career switch; or an employer looking for the right talent, the new Skills and Workforce Development Agency (SWDA) will be there to support you when it is formed later this year.

Formed through the merger of Workforce Singapore and SkillsFuture SG, SWDA will bring together skills development and workforce support under one agency to better support individuals and employers across every stage of the employment journey.

What this means:

🎓 Fresh graduates can explore traineeships and get guidance on their first steps

đź’» Mid-career individuals can receive personalised career guidance, reskilling support and job matching tailored to their next move

đź’Ľ Senior workers can find flexible career opportunities where their experience and network are valued

đź’ˇ Employers will gain sharper insights and better tools to build and retain the workforce they need.

At the heart of it all is a simple belief — Singapore's greatest strength has always been its people.

SWDA is designed to ensure that cycle keeps going, so no worker gets left behind, and no business has to face change alone.

📍Somewhere in Singapore…beneath the bustling city surface, someone is exploring underwater worlds that most people never get to see. 🌊

Danial always knew he wanted a fun, outdoor job. He started at a scuba diving shop, where a customer offered him his dream job as a commercial diver.

He spent the next 15 years sharpening his skills through thousands of dives, working on ship husbandry and learning to stay alert in an environment where every decision could mean life or death.

Today, as a supervisor, he leads with more than a decade of experience. Drawing from the different environments he has worked in, he guides his team and communicates with clarity — because underwater, there’s no room for hesitation.

His advice? If you're feeling lost, try as many things as possible until you find what you love. Then, build on your strengths and step up when the time is right. ⚓️
