🇪🇺 Did you know that the EU and Singapore have the most comprehensive set of bilateral agreements with any Southeast Asian partner? 🤝

This set includes a Free Trade Agreement since 2019, a Digital Partnership Agreement since 2023 and a Digital Trade Agreement in force since 1 February 2026.

🇧🇪 For Belgium, these EU-Singapore agreements are especially relevant. Belgium is Singapore’s third-largest export destination within the EU, accounting for 15.4% of Singapore’s exports to the EU27. This highlights Belgium’s role as a key European gateway for Singaporean trade and underlines the importance of these agreements in supporting trade, investment and digital connectivity between both sides.

Did you know that many European food products are protected by geographical indications? 🇪🇺🍽️

Geographical indications (GIs) protect the names of products linked to a specific territorial origin. GIs are thus a sign of quality and transparency that guarantees access to authentic products, whose characteristics are linked to their terroir and traditional production methods. GIs also protect consumers against counterfeiting by combating imitations and misuse, and by ensuring fair compensation for producers.

There are more than 3,500 geographical indications registered in the EU system. Singapore consumers benefit from this guarantee of quality and authenticity through 165 European GIs protected in Singapore since the implementation of the EU-Singapore Free Trade Agreement in 2019.

QUIZ TIME : Do you know which of these iconic products is a Belgian food protected by a European geographical indication? 🇧🇪✨

A) Westvleteren Trappist beer
B) Dandoy speculoos
C) Fromage de Herve

The correct answer is in the comment.
