The Police would like to alert members of the public to be vigilant and take preventive measures against a new variant of WhatsApp account takeover scams where scammers would send SMSes containing phishing links to deceive victims.

Scam victims in Singapore lose record $1.1 billion in 2024; highest number of cases ever reported

More than $80.7mil lost to scams in January 2025!
Government officials will NEVER do these things over a phone call:
❌Ask you to transfer money
❌️Ask you to disclose personal or banking details
❌️Ask you to install mobile apps from unofficial app stores
❌️Transfer your call directly to Police, except when you call 995 for life threatening emergencies
✅️If you receive an SMS from the government, make sure it is sent from the gov.sg SMS Sender ID.
Scammers may cite your personal information (e.g. name or NRIC number) to appear legitimate. Do not automatically trust someone just because he/she has your personal information!
