The 21st United Nations Vesak Day celebrations kicked off on May 26 in Wuxi, China’s Jiangsu Province. Wang Huning, member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Chairman of the CPPCC National Committee, sent a congratulatory letter for the occasion. China will, as always, support the Chinese Buddhist community in strengthening friendly exchanges with counterparts in other countries and regions, on the basis of independence, equality, friendship, and mutual respect. China will also contribute to enhancing friendship between the Chinese and foreign peoples, with whom to jointly build a world of lasting peace, universal security, common prosperity, openness and inclusiveness, and a clean and beautiful environment.

I heard that a recent Chinese film in the Chaoshan dialect, Dear You, has become a huge hit, with its box office revenue exceeding 10 billion RMB. The film tells a story of enduring devotion that crosses mountains and seas, and spans half a century. The grandson travels to Thailand with the family letters his grandmother had treasured for years, hoping to find a long-lost relative—only to uncover a secret: the "grandfather" who had been corresponding with his grandmother for decades had actually passed away long ago. For over ten years, it was an unknown woman from another place, who, in his stead, sent the letters and money orders, single-handedly supporting both families. Many netizens say the film is deeply moving and truly wonderful to watch. I hope we will have the chance to see this film in Singapore soon!

This afternoon, I had the pleasure of watching the dance drama Dream in Peony Pavilion from Suzhou, China. Using dance as its language, the drama employs lighting and stage design to evoke the poetic atmosphere of southern China. It reinterprets classic Chinese literature through a modern lens, and tenderly unfolds the love story between Du Liniang and Liu Mengmei that transcends life and death. Combined with the young dancers’ highly expressive performances, the drama allows the audience to experience the charm and power of stage arts up close. Congratulations on the successful conclusion of the dance drama's run in Singapore! Hope more outstanding productions like this can be presented in the Lion City in the future!
