"Lights, camera and plenty of action!" Our Primary 1 students took center stage this week in the last week of Term 2 for their "Celebration of Learning ," marking a milestone in their first semester in Yio Chu Kang Primary School (YCKPS).

"Celebration of Learning " is a heartening culmination of a vibrant 10 weeks of language learning where our young learners explored the world of drama. Throughout this journey, our students worked hard to develop the confidence to express themselves, collaborate meaningfully to put up a creative class drama performance and dramatise with poise. From mastering their lines to strengthening the resilience to perform in front of a live audience, they have truly demonstrated their growth as confident and self-directed learners.

It was a joy to see our P1s celebrate their progress alongside their parents through such a lively presentation and the interactive-reflection segment that followed the performance. By striving for excellence in their performances, our students have embodied one of the aspects of our school's vision, "Engaging Hearts." We are incredibly proud of their holistic development and the vibrant spirit they bring to our YCKPS community!

The school buzzed with energy as Yio Chu Kang Primary School (YCKPS) hosted an exciting Mathematics Challenge during recess! It was wonderful to see our students eagerly putting on their thinking caps, proving that learning can be just as fun and engaging outside the classroom setting.

Students gathered at our activity stations, all excited to tackle a variety of brain teasers and logic puzzles. It was heartening to see our young learners so deeply engaged in problem-solving, applying their classroom knowledge to interactive challenges. This programme is part of our commitment to holistic development, aiming to deepen their understanding of mathematical concepts while heightening their interest in the subject through purposeful play.

By persisting through overcoming the 'mathematical challenges' and collaborating with peers to find solutions, our students demonstrated remarkable RESILIENCE. They showed that with a positive mindset and having the curiosity to learn, every challenge is an opportunity to strive for EXCELLENCE. We are incredibly proud of their enthusiasm and their desire to grow as self-directed learners!

Our school campus recently buzzed with excitement as students from all levels immersed themselves in our Mother Tongue Languages (MTL) Fortnight learning experience. This vibrant experience provided our learners with meaningful opportunities to deepen their appreciation of their respective Mother Tongue Languages and cultures through a rich variety of traditional and experiential activities.

From mastering traditional games to participating in collaborative group tasks, our students ventured beyond the learning through text materials to that of hands-on experiences to appreciate their cultural heritage. These authentic learning experiences are part of our Holistic Development approach, designed to foster deeper connection with the learning of MTL while building our students' confidence to communicate fluently and meaningfully with the community through activities.

Throughout the fortnight, it was heartening to witness our students demonstrating the school value of Respect as they embraced diverse traditions and worked harmoniously in teams. The school came together to celebrate Hari Raya Puasa on Monday. Though the hall is currently closed for renovation, the celebration is continued in a different mode. An online celebration was designed and conducted. It was a wonderful opportunity for our students to immerse themselves to learn about the rich traditions and culture of this festive celebration.

The online concert started with a special dance performance put up by our CCA Malay Dance members. Our teacher emcees also shared about the origins and significance of the ketupat as one of the important selection of food item served and how it has been incorporated in different dishes during the celebration. There was also another special item - the 'Ketupat Weaving Challenge' where our teachers took up the challenge to weave ketupats with speed and skill.

We would like to wish all our Muslim students, families and friends 'Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri'!

At Yio Chu Kang Primary School, we believe that our students are never too young to make a big difference. Our Primary 5 students recently stepped up as Water Ambassadors, taking the lead to share the vital importance of water conservation with the school community.

Through their insightful project work presentations, our ambassadors raised awareness on how every individual can play a part in protecting this precious resource. To bring their learning to life, students also participated in a hands-on activity during recess, where they built simple water filtration systems. This practical experience allowed them to discover the science behind cleaning and reusing water, making their learning holistic and meaningful.

By taking ownership of this initiative, our P5 students demonstrated the school value of 'Responsibility', by reaching out to the school community to inspire peers to build a more sustainable future together!
