In this feature, developed by the Embassy of Portugal in collaboration with the Embassy of Brazil and the Embassy of Timor-Leste in Singapore, we highlight the diversity of the Portuguese language through words used in the three countries to express the same idea. Because the Portuguese language is global, vibrant and spoken in many different ways.

A língua portuguesa é falada por quase 300 milhões de pessoas em todo o mundo, sendo o idioma oficial em 9 países. Mas será que é sempre igual? 💬

Para assinalar o Dia Mundial da Língua Portuguesa, a Embaixada de Portugal em Singapura, em colaboração com a Embaixada do Brasil e a Embaixada de Timor‑Leste em Singapura, apresenta a rubrica "How do you say?".
Uma celebração da diversidade do português no mundo, através de palavras diferentes com o mesmo significado, usadas em Portugal, no Brasil e em Timor‑Leste. Três países, um património linguístico partilhado.

The Portuguese language is spoken by almost 300 million people worldwide and is the official language in nine countries. But is it always the same? 💬

To mark World Portuguese Language Day, the Embassy of Portugal in Singapore, in collaboration with the Embassy of Brazil and the Embassy of Timor-Leste in Singapore, presents the feature “How do you say?”.
A celebration of the diversity of Portuguese around the world, through different words with the same meaning, used in Portugal, Brazil and Timor-Leste. Three countries, a shared linguistic heritage.
