SKewb: How Is It Different?

Think you know twisty puzzles? Think again! πŸ‘€

The Skewb may look simple, but its unique corner-axis turning mechanism makes every move feel completely different. Unlike the 3Γ—3 or Ivy Cube, a single turn can move a whole section of the puzzle and challenge the way you think in 3D space.

From 4-axis turning to corner-based twisting, Skewb is a fun way to build spatial thinking, problem-solving skills, and adaptability. 🧠✨

Ready to twist, think, and discover a new way to solve?
Let’s twist & think! πŸ”„

Okay… I admit it. 😳
I thought learning a new puzzle would be easy because I already know how to solve a cube.

But then… SKEWB happened. πŸ˜‚

The layers were confusing.
The turns were different.
And I definitely had a few β€œOops!” moments. πŸ₯²

But then my teacher showed me how the Skewb turns around its corners… and suddenlyβ€”
πŸ’‘ I GET IT!

I didn’t learn everything in one day.
I just kept learning, one puzzle at a time. 🧩πŸ’ͺ

Every new puzzle teaches me something new how things work, how to stay patient, and how to keep trying when something feels difficult.

🌟 New puzzle. New rules. New adventure!

Follow Fangfang’s cubing journey and see what I’ll learn next! 🐼🧩

Meet the Skewb: a small cube with a surprisingly big challenge!

Unlike a normal cube, the Skewb doesn't turn by faces, it rotates around its 4 space diagonals, with each turn shifting all 6 faces at once. It's made of 8 corner pieces and 6 centre pieces, and has over 7.4 million possible states, yet most solves only take around 8 moves on average.

It was invented by Tony Durham and later brought to market by Uwe MΓ«ffert, the same mind behind the Pyraminx!

Fun fact: the name "Skewb" comes from its skewed turning mechanism, since it turns around diagonals, not faces.

Small cube, big challenge. Twist it, solve it, master the Skewb! 🌟

Ready... 3, 2, 1, go! ⏱️

Timed solves can feel exciting one moment and nerve-wracking the next. Fangfang jumped in confidently, then hit a "wait, what's next?" moment mid-solve, that's just part of learning something new.

Instead of rushing, he paused, took a breath, and reminded himself: think first, then turn. And when he got it, the smile said it all. 😊

Fangfang's own words say it best: "I didn't learn everything in one day. I just kept learning, one puzzle at a time."

Challenge yourself, not others. Every solve is a chance to improve. ❀️

🐼 Cubing helps Fangfang build: better focus, stronger memory, more patience, more confidence, and a happier mind.

Fun fact: the Pyraminx is actually older than the Rubik's Cube!

Back in the early 1970s, inventor Uwe MΓ«ffert was experimenting with wooden pyramid puzzles years before ErnΕ‘ Rubik invented the 3x3 in 1974. MΓ«ffert's prototypes sat in a drawer for nearly a decade before finally launching worldwide in 1981 with Tomy Toys.

Since then, it's sold over 90 million units and become one of the most iconic twisty puzzles ever made.

So next time your child picks up a Pyraminx, they're not just solving a puzzle they're holding a little piece of cubing history. 🌟

Noticed your little one flying through the Ivy Cube lately? That's usually the sign they're ready for something new.

Once they can solve it confidently in 1–2 minutes, the Pyraminx is a natural next step a bit trickier, but still very beginner-friendly, and it's a great way to build on the confidence they've already got.

A few things parents often ask us:

πŸ• Best age to start? Around 7-8 years old
🧩 Is it a big jump? Not really just 1-2 new moves to learn
πŸ’› Will it knock their confidence? Nope, most kids find it exciting, not overwhelming.

Every cube is just another small step forward. 🌱

Fangfang's Cubing Journey EP.3: Pyraminx

"I already solved my Ivy Cube... so this should be easy, right?" 😎 Fangfang meets his next puzzle, the Pyraminx and quickly realizes triangles play by different rules! πŸ˜…
"Watch, learn, and discover" his teacher shows him a move. Looks simple enough... "I'll try! This move looks fun!" πŸ’ͺ
Then: "Oops! Why won't this piece go there?" πŸ€”πŸ’ A few wrong turns, a little confusion, but Fangfang keeps going.
"Try again. Step by step... I'm getting it!" πŸ”βœ¨
And then... πŸŽ‰ "I DID IT! The Pyraminx is solved! I feel so proud!" ❀️

New shape, new challenge and Fangfang tackled it one twist at a time 🐼
