International Friendship Week 2026 @ GMSS 13 April-17 April 2026
This April, we commemorated International Friendship Week with a series of meaningful experiences that brought learning beyond the classroom for our GEMS students.
Anchored on the theme ‘Forging Friendships in a Complex World’, students explored Singapore’s connections with the region and beyond, gaining deeper insights into the importance of cooperation across cultures, communities, and countries. As Asia continues to grow as a dynamic global region, our students developed a stronger awareness of the geopolitical realities shaping our world, and the role that friendship and partnership play in navigating them.
The week was launched during GEM Time with an ASEAN-focused sharing on Indonesian and Vietnamese cultures. During recess, students immersed themselves in traditional games from across the region, including South Korean Ddakji, the Indian Tiger and Goat game, Chinese Yo-Yo, Indonesian Congkak and Galeng Panjang, and Japanese Kendama.
In the spirit of cultural appreciation, staff and students also enjoyed a variety of regional delights such as Lemper, Bánh mì, Vietnamese popiah, Thai Red Ruby, and Thai milk tea.
To further enrich the experience, our international students and their local buddies took part in a specially curated visit to the Peranakan Museum, where they gained deeper insights into Peranakan culture and its historical significance within the Joo Chiat and Katong neighbourhoods.
Through these shared experiences, we continue to strengthen bonds, celebrate diversity, and nurture globally aware citizens who are ready to thrive in an interconnected world.

Elements of Business Skills (EBS) Students Check In to the Business of Service
Our EBS students recently embarked on an enriching learning journey to JW Marriott Singapore South Beach, where they gained valuable insights into the world of hospitality, luxury service, and hotel operations.
A heartfelt thank you to the hotel personnel for the warm welcome and wonderful hospitality throughout the visit. Our students were highly engaged during the session, enthusiastically participating in discussions and even receiving exclusive limited-edition merchandise!
The guided hotel tour was truly eye-opening. Students had the opportunity to explore various back-of-house areas, F&B outlets, meeting spaces, and the magnificent grand ballroom. Along the way, they were captivated by the hotel’s stunning architecture and thoughtfully curated art pieces, which added to the unique atmosphere of the space. A particularly fascinating feature was discovering how the hotel maintains a cool and airy environment through innovative architectural design, despite the absence of fans, making it a remarkable example of sustainability in action.
From an EBS perspective, key concepts such as Customer Service, Product, and Place were brought to life through the hotel’s exceptional guest experience, strategic location, and diverse range of offerings.
It was a meaningful, memorable, and enjoyable learning experience for all!

The Secondary 1 cohort embarked on a learning journey to Singapore’s first eco-town, Punggol Town, as part of their Values in Action programme, focusing on sustainable environmental practices within a modern HDB landscape.
Students learned about this eco-town, designed as a sustainable, smart waterfront district featuring green technology, rich biodiversity, and green building standards. Key features include green rooftops that reduce ambient temperatures, solar-powered smart lighting, and water-efficient systems used to irrigate landscaped areas. The town also features comprehensive cycling networks to encourage greener modes of transport.
Places visited included One Punggol, Waterway Terraces I, Punggol Discovery Cube, and the Waterway Point Viewing Deck.
It was an eye-opening experience for students, as they saw firsthand how sustainable design and green technologies are thoughtfully integrated into public housing.

🎉Celebrating a Milestone Cohort🎉
The cohort of students who collected their O level results were part of the first batch of students who were posted using the PSLE AL scoring system. The change from T-score to the AL scoring system was part of a set of measures by MOE to reduce the overemphasis on grades. Throughout their years of study in GM, we emphasized to them the school values of Excellence (to be the best version of themselves) and Mastery. We are incredibly proud of the outstanding O-Level results they achieved!
As a milestone cohort, our students rose confidently to the challenge, demonstrating resilience, discipline and commitment throughout their learning journey. Their strong results reflect not only their hard work but also the unwavering support of our teachers, families, and the wider school community.
We are especially heartened to celebrate students who have shown significant growth and improvement over the years. Their perseverance inspires us all and proves that commitment and consistency make a real difference.
The Class of 2025 has set a meaningful benchmark for future cohorts. The school is immensely proud of their achievements and looks forward to seeing them continue to grow and soar to even greater heights in the next chapter of their journey.
Congratulations to our students, parents, and staff on this shared achievement! 🌟
